What I think about our Energy problem and what we can do, also how it fits in the election.
Energy is one of the most important aspects of the 2008 election, but it can also be the most confusing, or to me it is. The reason it is so important is mainly because gas is so high, and no one has taken a stand to try to fix it, in the political world at least. In one of the articles, I read that McCain was the presidential candidate that was primarily worried about the current price of gas in the United States. I don’t necessarily think that if we did do offshore drilling that it would dramatically bring our gas prices down, but I mean its worth a shot. Even if it lowers it a few cents, added up that is a lot of money over time. I think that because our gas prices are so high, that this would classify as an important topic for the presidential candidates to address.
Greenhouse gases, that are polluting the air we breath, are another important topic. Obama says that he has a plan that would be as effective as taking away the pollutants of 52 billion cars by the year 2020. Yes, this sounds great and all, but how does the know that the presidents after him will approve of the plan. I mean 2020 is in 12 years, and by then Obama will be 59 years old and over his possible second term. This makes me think that he is just trying to pump up the crowd, by telling them that “we will be the generation to end global warming” and other things he hopes to accomplish while in office.
All of the topics are important and should be addressed by both presidential candidates. It is probably obvious that I am a republican, but I tried to be fair in comparing the two. McCain just seems to be the right choice to me at this point, not just because of his stance for gas prices, but because he has much more experience than Obama. But as said on, Meet the Press, “Well, Abraham Lincoln only served two years in the U.S. House, and seemed to do all right.” I guess it is just a matter of opinion.
