The media, and the distorted viewpoints that it provides.
The media is the maker of our news, TV shows, and commercials. They often tend to tell us a one-sided view that we see. When presented with an idea that is presented by the media one should always question if they see the truth. What we see is what we get, but when we search for more we discover a whole new world around us.
Truth is defined by the media as whatever can bring in the highest ratings at the lowest cost to the producer. While there is important news out there the media regularly makes up news stories to fill in space. This can be referred to as filler material. While this truth may give an insight into life it can still be biased in favour of the media.
Opinion of the viewer tends to play into this phenomena. Stories are often told from a one-sided view not because it is cheaper to do so, but because there is a side that will tug at our emotions. Our emotions tend to lead us to support an opinion. However, with only half of the facts we may not be able to make an informed decision.
The bias of the media is a problem on a global scale. As we each tend to have our own opinion; bias in itself is impossible to eliminate. Thus, instead of trying to eliminate bias we should instead inform ourselves on knowledge issues and come to a neutral-point-of-view. It is from this that we should from our opinions.
