The republican party unleashed an onslaught of negative attacks against a portion of the Health Care plans being pushed through the senate and the house. What is their goal? Why are they now backtracking and blaming the democrats for their lies? What is going on here?
What is it that the Republicans are trying to do exacty? They attacked the democratic healthcare plans, made up horrendous lies and now are trying to defend the very programs that they have attacked. And, no, it isn’t that some support the public option and others don’t. Often times it is the same person speaking out of both sides of their mouths.
As far as the alleged death panels are concerned, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is on record of having said:
There is some fear because in the House bill, there is counseling for end-of-life. And from that standpoint, you have every right to fear. You shouldn’t have counseling at the end of life. You ought to have counseling 20 years before you’re going to die. You ought to plan these things out. And I don’t have any problem with things like living wills. But they ought to be done within the family. We should not have a government program that determines if you’re going to pull the plug on grandma.
Now? Well, now he see’s things differently. This morning, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) called in to MSNBC’s Morning Meeting to discuss health insurance reform. During the interview, host Dylan Ratigan asked Grassley about the so-called “death panels” in the House reform bill. Grassley, incredibly, responded that the fervor over end-of-life counseling is the result of “a distortion coming from the far-left.”
It’s as if he doesn’t realize that he pushed this agenda along with Sarah Palin, trying to scare our citizens into voting against a health care plan that would benifit the citizens of this nation.
Speaking of Death Panels, though this part of the bill has been removed, do you know who wrote the provision? Hint. His name has an R next to it. They planned this from the beginning. The republicans wrote a very specific provision in the hopes the democrats would recognize that it is redundant and unnecessary. Their plan was that democrats would reject the provision and thus thy could call democrats nonpartisan. Because democrats kept it in the bill, until now, they decided to twist its content into a fear based lie about euthanasia.
So what about the public option? Republicans had been vehemently against the public option portion of the plan, calling it communist, socialist, Nazi based and many many many other incoherent things. Now that the Democrats have agreed to move forward with out it?
The new talking point from the right is alrady being used, what are they saying? Public Option is OK so long as we don’t reform Private Insurance. Several republican senators are even expected to go on the assault in the next few weeks and accuse democrats of having taken out a perfectly usable public option.
So what is their plan? Do they really think we are this stupid? Do they honestly believe that we’re going to believe them when they tell us that it was US who fought against healthcare reform and it was US who created the death panel controversy?

Health Care in Canada looks better and better to me whenever I hear what’s going on south of our border.
Trying to offer government insurance to 46 million people is a titanic work that demands trillions of tax payers dollars. If the Government runs out of money, what are they goingto do? Tell ill people to hang in there untill is time to die because we can’t afford his/her care any more.
Over 50% of those 46 million unensured CITIZENS don’t really need health insurance. They are under 50 years old.
Obama wants a mandatory insurance for people that don’t even want insurance.
This is a socialist mess Obama is taking us to. Taking our freedoms away like a dicator.
Carmelo, please don’t be an idiot. It isn’t socialist, it isn’t taking away your freedom. The reason he wants a mandate is because he has been convinced that people who don’t need insurance right now are less likely to participate and that will harm the entire system. I would prefer a socialist system, like Denmarks, but because of republicans we can never have anything that logically sound so we have to have this half assed system that obama wants.
Come off it Carmelo. Think. That 50% of those uninsured citizens that “don’t really need health insurance” could at any time come down with a highly communicable disease like TB.
Having no insurance means they would be less likely to seek treatment and more likely to spread the disease.
They could also possibly have an accident and end up in an E.R. Who ends up paying then? You and me…assuming you have insurance. I have insurance and the premiums and deductables are enormous in part because of cost-shifting.
