The 33 year old mother of octuplets seems to have found every way possible to milk the system. Ultimately, the taxpayers in California will bear the cost for this woman’s insane obsession.
Since I originally reported on this story a week ago in my article Enough is Enough, I have continued to follow as new information on the 33 year old, unmarried, unemployed mother of octuplets continues to unfold. Based on the tone of comments left on my previous article, I think most of us agree, this woman is not right in the head. Here’s an update on what has been revealed since my last post.
Nadya Suleman states emphatically that she is responsible for all fourteen of her children conceived through IVF and that she does not receive aid for the support of any of these children. Either she’s a liar or a nut job who is unable to face reality. Here’s a breakdown on how this woman has been supporting herself and her six children prior to the birth of the octuplets:
$165,000 – Nadya Suleman was injured during a riot while she was working at a STATE mental hospital. She received over $165,000 from STATE disability payments spanning a decade. This is the same decade that she was pregnant almost continuously with her first six children. I’ve been pregnant and I know what a strain pregnancy is on the back. She was too injured to continue working due to a back injury yet could give birth to six children only thirteen months apart rendering her is a state of continuous pregnancy for almost a decade. And by the way, the cost of her IVF is estimated at $100,000 which she could easily pay considering the sum of her STATE disability payments.
$2,379 per month – Of the six children Nadya Suleman already has at home, three of them have been diagnosed with a disability which earns the mother a $793 SOCIAL SECURITY disability payment per month, per child. This is not taking into account any disabilities the newborn octuplets may suffer. Keep in mind there is a high possibility that the ocutuplets may suffer from cerebral palsy considering the circumstances of their birth. This of course would increase Nadya’s monthly income.
$490 per month – The family currently receives from the STATE a food stamp allotment in the amount of $490 per month based upon Nadya’s family size of six children. Again, this amount will increase substantially with an additional eight new mouths to feed.
Nadya Suleman states she is currently in debt for approximately $50,000 for student loans which she was using to support her six children. Reportedly, she has exhausted her student loans yet states she plans to continue her education after the octuplets are home with her. Care for the children will be provided by the Daycare Center on campus at California STATE University, Fullerton. The hospital that is caring for the premature octuplets has already made a request for payment through the STATE of California Medi-Cal program for an estimated payment in the amount of $1.3 million.
Crazy Like a Fox
While I definitely believe this woman is crazy, I certainly don’t think she’s stupid. I think she had a ten year plan and when her STATE disability payments were terminated she hurried up and had all her remaining embryos implanted resulting in the birth of the octuplets. For someone who boasts she is not receiving welfare, it seems she’s found multiple ways to milk the system. Why couldn’t she just earn an honest wage by becoming a licensed day care provider for fourteen children. There’s plenty of STATE aid available for that.

you clearly and emphatically stated your point. I too is following the story of Nadya Suleman and i will categorically state that she is outfooling the US services system, having plain taxpayers carries the load of her stupidity. Its a good thing that she wasn’t a citizen of our country because the govt. will not help him much and ordinary citizen will not tolerate her act..
She has really poised herself as the mocking poster-child of all things right and sacred, hasn’t she? I hold the doctors accountable as much as she–they had to know she was short of wits. Great piece, by the way, I can tell you’re a little angry.
What about the dr that evidently helped do this ?
I think you have raised valid points and have done pertinent research. I have also been following this story and am appalled by the facts.
I’ve been following this also, and I agree with you. The whole system is alittle whacked. I would hope someone at some point in SRS would stop and go…hmmmm…but they won’t.
This woman needs therapy. I am sure that she is disturbed. But this poses a difficult problem, because if nobody gives her money, then the children will starve. On the other hand, if the state steps in and takes some of the children away, it might pose a dangerous precedent,allowing state officials to legislate how many children a person can have. This quandary could totally have been avoided by a Dr. with common sense.
And when people abuse things like Invitro and welfare, it makes it hard for the people who really do need those services.

To me, it’s those doctors that are crazy! Sure the woman is totally out to lunch but how in god’s name could those doctors, whom we are suppose to trust to make rational and sound judgements, make the most irrational judgment of all?
This is a very important post, Joni. We need to talk and get angry about this especially if you’re a mom like I am because upon reading and first hearing about this woman my first thought were the children. Crazy mother, doctors and no daddy!
As I hear more and more about this woman, I am beginning to agree with her state of mind. I wonder why the doctors would implant so many embryos in one go. It all seems very strange to me. A great article by the way.

Great article Joni. I stated from the first time i heard about this woman that she did this for one reason and one reason only MONEY! Common sense will tell you that anyone in their right mind would not have done this. there lies the question is she in her right mind? i think the answer is yes and she knew perfectly well what she was doing, unfortunately it’s the children that will pay one way or another. Any normal women would be having a nervous breakdown about now just wondering how they would manage, not so with her she seems to be enjoying every minute of it.
Enough is enough…
I agree the woman is unblanced. I think we will be seeing a TV show of the Suleman Octuplets when she gets the babies home from the hospital.If so that will take the strain off the taxpayers.She also has a book and a movie in the works.
Hmmm, and did I hear California was bankrupt? Anyone on welfare or disability should be required to do some kind of work for the dollars received. There are all kinds of jobs, even legitimately disabled can do, and most honorable individuals would rather work for it. I only hope these children will escape mom’s insanity and prefer to earn their wages.

I think there needs to be some control on the doctors involved. helping a woman give birth is one thing but assisting her to give birth to Octuplets is just crazy and irresponsible. I vote crazy like a fox too. In my opinion shes milking the system

I don’t think she’s crazy I feel as though she has a psychological need (issue). It appears to me she is craving a love that she feels from bearing these children, like a child bearing addiction.Some people shop too much, some drink too much, some watch porn too much, it is all addictive behavior. Her doctor should have intervened and placed her in a theraputic program. Yes, we know who the real victims are, the children and the public that pays for her addiction. Everyone has a vice and bearing children is her vice. The children are here and they will need to be taken care of, and we’ll do it, just like we take care of every other addiction that people have. It sucks, but we’ll do it!

Very well written article. I totally agree with you. I too have followed this story, and I am just as outraged, if not more.
I am the mother of a handicapped child. So, for this woman to use her supposedly handicapped children like a paycheck is beyond despicable, and insulting to mothers of handicapped children everywhere. One of her kids gets SSI for previously having a speech impediment. My child can not walk, talk, or even hold her own head up. In other words, there are millions of kids with REAL handicaps that can not get assistance simply because of women like her that clog the SSI system up with kids that do not have a real handicapped. I can tell you that this woman is committing SSI fraud. SSI regulations mandate that parents can only have 1200 dollars in assets….this woman claims she saved money (no doubt the money supposed to be used for her kids) for IVF. So, if she had money for IVF and all the plastic surgery she has had, then why was she still eligible for SSI payments, and why didn’t she use the saved money to support her kids?
I agree with you this woman is milking the system. We will read that the new 8 are all on SSI. They automatically qualify…just for being premature, and like you said God only knows what types of disorders and diseases these children will be afflicted with because they are premature.
This is America and God forbid the government ever try to dictate how many children people can have. However, that doesn’t mean that people should be able to use children as paychecks. If a person continues to choose to have children that they cant afford, the children should be placed in government care, instead of giving these irresponsible parents free checks. Freedom and responsibity go hand in hand. If people continue to be so irresponsible, it is inevitable that we will all see our freedom lost.
Lastly, the unethical doctor that implanted this embryos should have his medical license revoked.

I disagree with your comment. An addiction is one thing. There are plenty of alcoholics that are addicted to drinking, but do not ask anyone else to pay for their drinks, do not drive and commit crimes, do not ask the government to pay for the harm they do to their bodies, etc.. Just like there are plenty of families that choose to have a multitude of kids but do not ask anyone else to pay for them, fraudulently claim government assistance, and ask the government to pay for them to have the children. This woman isn’t addicted to having children, she is addicted to the attention and free money that comes with it. But, even if you are right and the woman is addicted to having children, if we continue to reward her with attention and money we are only feeding her problem. I mean would you give an alcoholic keys to a liquor store? No, so why would you give this woman the keys to these childrens lives?

Nayda is not as crazy as some would think. It seems the ones who are crazy are those that allow her to take advantage of we the Americans who pay their taxes. How much as she paid into the government as appossed to receiving from the Government. Shouldn’t some smart person put a stop to this. She seems to me to be sadistic. She really needs to be incarcerated. Let her get free room and board in jail.
