Glenn Beck is to launch a new book and a new crusade to restore America. But what is his plan – and is it for the nation, or really just for him?

Glenn Beck has been on a lot of crusades lately.

First, it was against Acorn. Then two 20-something kids dressed up as a pimp and a prostitute and caught Acorn workers on tape being helpful in a very wrong way. That took the wind out of Beck’s sails, as he stopped being the face on the “War on Acorn”.

Then he moved on to Obama’s Czars. There were too many, he claimed. He even made people believe Obama was the only president to have Czars – which is crap. Reagan had them, Bush #2 had them… even Nixon had at least one. Since the Green Jobs Czar stepped down during this “War on Czars”, Beck has seemed to layoff the assault a bit.

Now he’s on a “War on Socialism”. This is bit broader attack. He’s upset about too much government control, spending, and corruption. From the Tea Party and 912 Project protest turnout, you can see he’s making an impact. Although once again, it’s often with people who don’t have the intelligence to understand that a lot of things they don’t like about Obama are the same things Bush did (I guess it’s easy to forget Bush signed a Stimulus Bill).

Well it appears Beck in on a new rampage. He has a “Master Plan” – a 100-year plan, in fact. It seems this plan includes bringing an end to America’s 2-party system. A genius, selfless life goal… or just a money-making ploy to sell a book? Oh… didn’t I mention there’s a book?

Glenn Beck just announced his plans for a new book, titled “The Plan: The Book”. He invited people at a Florida rally to join him August 28th, 2010 at “the feet of Abraham Lincoln at the National Mall” for the unveiling of his “Plan” on how he will “restore our great country.”

You can call Glenn Beck lots of things, but you really can’t call him dumb. First of all, he’s had a lot of varied messages he’s been pushing over the last year. It’s hard to grab a foothold on any one “mission” when you’re constantly moving on to the next thing. This “Plan” will give him the opportunity to focus on one thing for a long time…100 years long! And that leads me to the 2nd reason why this is a smart strategy. No one can completely prove him a failure on this. After all, he’s claiming this is a 100-year plan, not something you can say has failed until August 28th 2110.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying “The Plan” is a good thing. I can’t. I don’t know the details about it yet. What I am saying is that this is a great marketing strategy. One that can’t fail – at least not in his lifetime.

I do know that I am concerned by the type of people who are drawn to Glenn Beck. Many of the people who show up at his rallies lack basic knowledge of our history, yet have intense passion about their strong (not always based on facts) beliefs.

Some people call Beck delusional, pointing to his non-sequitur connections and monologues. But I’m not ready to call in the men with the white coats yet. Beck’s making a lot of money for what he’s saying. I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. I think he does have a Master Plan – a plan to become the most successful pundit in the world. And at this point, I think he may just do it.
