We all ,know the problem, even though we do not like to discuss it or even think about it most of the time. We live beyond our means and have a certain lifestyle we desire to maintain. There is a difference between wants and needs. Survival tells us we need water, food, shelter and clothing. We need the right weather and reasonable health care to fit each unique situation. We have this problem from greed. Credit is borrowing money. Using borrowed money and not even trying to pay it back is stealing. Have we become a nation of thieves? Paying interest is what the money lenders do to make a profit and stay in business. Too much interest is wrong for it makes more of a hardship and causes people not to care if they pay back a loan for they consider it unfair. During the Great Depression, all my grandmother had were two dresses for clothing and two pair of shoes. One to wash and one to wear. They did not use deodorant either, just a little perfume under their arms. When their home burned down, neighbors helped rebuild it. The garden feed many people. Canning was a normal way of life. So was well water. So, to help the economy, if you are able, stop or limit the use of credit cards and go by cash only. Another option is to use a debit card and if you do not have enough money to buy something, do not do it. Large people had much to eat during the depression so large persons were known to be wealthy and it was in style.

Make out a monthly budget and include emergency funds in it for such things as a trip to the dentist for a painful tooth. Pay some on your bills each month and do not run and hide from creditors. You may choose to tell them to correspond with you in the mail. Make sure they are not some criminal making up lies to you about money not owed. Pay your rent first or you will become homeless or have to move. Moving is very expensive. Pay the water, gas and electric bill. Then food. Try to find food that is healthy and cheap. Grow some of your own as this is not hard to do, even indoors. Save a portion of money you receive each time you have some. For some reason, this is not easy. And remember, if you die in debt, your family will be stuck with the bills, so get some life insurance. Insurance is a great investment, for it replaces things. Too bad it cannot replace people, plants and animals.

One man told me recently that everyone should get what they can from the government. I could only think of former John Kennedy and his words when He said, ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Another woman said it is good to get a credit card and run it up to the max and not pay it back. This was many years ago and something about this mentality was and is still today wrong. The lack of money is no reason to have mental problems. Some of the happiest people I ever knew where poor.
