How the education cuts in the stimulus bill could lead to a learning deficiency for a generation of children.

Knowledge is power. I wonder does this have anything to do with the Conservatives push for the following cuts from the stimulus bill:

  • $600 million for Title I (No Child Left Behind)
  • $16 billion for School Construction
  • $3.5 billion for Higher Education Construction
  • $98 million for School Nutrition
  • $100 million for Distance Learning
  • $2.25 billion for Neighborhood Stabilization
  • $100 million for Science
  • $2 billion for Broadband

Sigh. When will we learn? Education costs money but ignorance costs that much more. The last thing we want is an entire generation of children whose learning was interrupted by a recession, which extends to the laying off teachers, inferior teaching materials, and an environment that is not conducive to learning.
