Exit polls show that fifty five percent of white Americans voted for McCain, but ninety five percent of African Americans voted for Obama. This kind of trend makes it seem as if racism played a role in electing the new president.
Nationally, exit polls show that fifty five percent of white Americans voted for McCain, but ninety five percent of African Americans voted for Obama. This kind of trend makes it seem as if racism played a role in electing the new president. It is impossible to determine whether or not racism really did come into play or not, but the fact that ninety five percent of African Americans voted for Obama is staggering. White Americans were divided more evenly between Obama and McCain, but leaned towards supporting McCain.
Also polled nationally, sixty six percent of people ages 18-24 voted for Obama, as well as people ages 25-29. Fifty four percent of the age group 30-39 voted for Obama, but the age group of 40-49 was divided evenly between Obama and McCain. Also divided evenly was the age group 50-64, but the age group over 65 supported McCain fifty three percent to forty five percent for Obama. These polls show how much age controls the election. The fact that fifty three percent of older Americans supported McCain may prove that the age group is more racist, or more fearful of electing a younger, less experienced president. It is interesting that the 40-49 age group was split evenly between McCain and Obama. However, the fact that every age group below that supported Obama shows that he really worked hard for the young peoples vote. New voters showed up to vote on Election Day, and most voted Obama. I think these votes were important in determining him the new president elect.
