Let’s not give artificial intelligence to robots.
In the popular science fiction show Battle star Galactica we learn a great deal about this futuristic society that has a war with machines that destroys their home worlds. Only 39,000 survive and are fated to roam the galaxy trying to find a new world to start over on.
But besides all that what really fascinates me is their enemies, which are robots. There has been a great deal of scare movies and shows about one day robots rising up and realizing they are so much more and should not be just a slave to humanity. War ensues and the robots are let free to do what they want. But what I don’t understand is why humans in these stories let robots evolve in the first place. Maybe it was a little too much memory, or to fast a processor but somehow the robots evolved and leave us or kill us.
Humans are pretty smart. I think we design movies and shows as morality plays to prevent us from going down the wrong road to our down fall. These shows also show what would happen if we did.
So instead of creating robots that could evolve we would create robots that could never evolve. Either by keeping their memory low, processor low, keeping robots as simple as possible.
There would not need to be a war or a revolution if we did not create a robot that could evolve.
But let’s say the ultimate thing happens, a robot evolves. I don’t think he is going to go crazy and start a war. He could fit right in with society. He could look at less sophisticated robots and realize they are similar to him but that he is unique and has been allowed to live. Would he want to procreate? Sure who wouldn’t? Then what do we do?
But the point I am getting to is we don’t have to go this route. Just keep robots dumb and not intelligent and you’ll have no problems.
But you know there will be someone in some exotic country that decides it wants to make the perfect weapon and creates the robot soldier and give him ultimate intelligents. Well then we’d have a problem if it went crazy.
And in fact this idea is not too farfetched because even now there are scientist in countries learning how to clone humans. You think we aren’t going to see a cloned human in the future? So I am sure we will see an artificial intelligent robot, the problem becomes what do we do then?
