About the state of the UK.

Is there any hope for the uk in 2009?

It’s 31st December 2008, traditionally the time to review the past year and make resolutions for 2009. A quick read of the Daily Mail shows another UK based company, USC, has gone bust over the Christmas period, joining Zavvi and Woolworths, to name but a couple of well known brands.

The UK banking system seems to have gone into freefall and is surviving only by way of Government monies and the British pound collapses against the major world currencies every day.

Christmas overseas’ holidaymakers are starting to return to the UK with complaints about the amount of money they have had to spend to achieve the wonderful Christmas in the sun that they had hoped for.

Whilst the stay at home Christmas revellers watch their gas and electricity meters whiz round and wonder whether they will be able to pay their next utility bill.

Unemployment is soaring and the economy collapsing.

The only bright spots on the horizon being reduced mortgage interest rates – for those who can afford their own home – and incessant petrol price cuts.

Happy New Year, United Kingdom, hopefully it will only get better.
