A discussion of how a religious figure can deliberately misinterpret reality for ideological purposes.
The Most Reverend Alexander J. Brunett, Archbishop of Seattle, WA seeks to be an enthusiast for the commission of mortal sin by encouraging ugly worship of the Great Lord Mammon, not the Lord of Creation. The most esteemed [by whom?] Archbishop Burnett, in his rather amazing archdiocesan letter, dated February 15, 2009, seems abnormally transfixed by an implied megalomania; this is in his bizarre effort, through intensely absurd clerical fiat, to simply deny and refute one of the most ancient and basic laws of economics: supply and demand. More will be said critically about this later.
No Mention of Mexico in His Letter
Of course, in that cloying, pleading letter, he quite unctuously defends what he there, willingly, calls “comprehensive immigration reform” for, thus, aiding the “immigrants’ plea for a better life” in the USA (as if actually guaranteed by the US Constitution, one supposes). He, in addition, cites the US Bishops as having (dubiously) raised “their [tainted] voice” concerning “undocumented [read: illegal] immigrants” who suffer incredibly from enormously massive “human tragedy and injustice” in this (denounced?) country.
The goodly cleric, extravagantly, demands “the civil and human rights” for these helpless people, (though with no righteous or needed denunciations, as per usual, of the excessively corrupt Mexican regime, the mainly Free Mason-controlled oligarchy, that immorally forces millions upon millions of its wrongly impoverished citizens to seek a better future in foreign lands). [By the way, Mexico is a truly wealthy country with many great natural resources by which it could, thus, substantially help its people, rather than to, thus, systematically add to their horrible sufferings, especially the poorest of them.]
Therefore, there is the one-sided or skewed, ideological Leftist call for “a moratorium on all Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.” In aggressive and bold support of this tremendously urgent matter, moreover, there are to be seriously held “a series of one day forums” during March and April of this year.
What is the profoundly heart-felt crisis situation, not strategically mentioned until the 6th paragraph on the second page, about that seemingly troubles the Seattle branch of the Church? There has most sadly been “a dramatic drop in Sunday Mass attendance” due, it is notably alleged, to vicious ICE activities in the entire region. This honestly translates, by making the subject truly clear, in a distinct drop in the Sunday collections (read: money), which then oh-so-terribly offends, needlessly to say, the Great Lord Mammon. And, more to the point, it does a grave disservice to the Roman Catholic Faith.
Archbishop Burnett says he (read: ironically or hypocritically?) feels warmly compelled to act— Why? — because of “the message of the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching,” of course. Need you skeptically ask? What else could magnificently move his Excellency so strongly, (as much less, in fact, has been done, over the years, to really actively fight, e.g., abortion, etc.)?
His rather eager solicitude for the concerns of illegal aliens is much appreciated, as, for instance, Mass attendance on Sundays normally is about only 25% or so of the parishioners; thus, the major lack of those who might be termed the “para-parishioners” can, admittedly, hurt the collections bad. This Archbishop is no fool. He so fully appreciates, therefore, the bottom line of the ecclesial business situation, for the ever greater glory of the Great Lord Mammon, not the Lord God Almighty, of course.
The Truth Gets Totally Ignored
Not being blind to contrary (and more legally, morally and politically informed) opinion, however, this is, he continues, even sincerely though “some of our Catholic faithful may not be in agreement” with his (read: materialistic or money-oriented) thinking. So, are enraged masses of evil ICE agents literally standing outside many Catholic churches, throughout his diocese, to heartlessly catch the illegal aliens, meaning those people who are, in fact, lawbreakers, outlaws, who do blatantly violate the laws of this country? No. This is, obviously, not the true case.
What has happened, as he is fully aware, is the economic recession happening now that will become, under Obama’s collectivist-oriented regime, a full-scale depression. The inexorable law of supply and demand, market economics, has taken a toll of the presence of illegal aliens who had decided, quite logically, to just go back to Mexico (or elsewhere) due to a lack of available work, of jobs. No supposed ICE conspiracy or other such matter is fundamentally involved.
And, as ever, there is to be no suitably correct placing of major requisite blame or highly appropriate responsibility on the extremely infamous and decadent Mexican regime that wrongly utilizes the USA, as an often convenient safety value, for its excess poor immorally used, in effect, as an export product.
America, home of the evil gringo where millions run to with hope in their hearts for better lives for themselves and their children and children’s children, gets axiomatically condemned, judged, found guilty, and sentenced to be scorned heavily always as the only and true reason for so much unneeded suffering, especially, as noted, when Church coffers suffer. It can only be properly prayed that the good Archbishop Burnett will never inadvertently encourage hatred of illegal aliens who are, admittedly, the mere pawns of the powers-that-be in both Mexico and the USA.
Ideological Predisposition Revealed
Meanwhile, while some illegal aliens may have been, in fact, cooled by ICE apprehensions, the rather prosaic reason and simply logical explanation, for their dramatically increasing shortage in America, is still, however, just predominantly due to the aforementioned and unfortunate economic recession. This important and known matter (not mentioned, in fact, anywhere in his letter) he, of course, casually and conveniently ignores; this is, surely, for the propagandistic sake of scoring Leftist ideological points with America’s progressives, the liberal bleeding hearts; thus, lying is perceived as a known sin.
And so, the rather public sins of the Archbishop are many that he seeks not repentance for in this world, yet, he may be fully surprised, as to his ultimate fate, in the final life of the world to come.
Athanasius contra mundum!
