In the wake of Dr Tanya Byron’s recent report on game classifications, Anne Diamond, the television reporter, has tried out some violent video games for the first time, and written an article about it in the Daily Mail. This is one of the funniest articles I’ve read in a while.
Pictures
The article features a shamefully poor Photoshop attempt to show Anne holding the games, mysteriously cut in half. As well as this, is a nice picture of little kids playing an N64, shame they couldn’t have got pictures of any console released this century.
Reviews
Her reviews are great to read, highlights include her being “stabbed to death with pitchforks amid fountains of her own blood” in Resident Evil 4, something which is pretty representative of general Resi4 gameplay last time I played. In her opinion, “this game shouldn’t be allowed to be sold, even to adults.” She also tried out Clive Barker’s Jericho, a game which has impressive displays of gore, if nothing else. However she “stopped playing when she was set on fire and something splattered blood all over her visor.” It’s great to see the first reactions of non-gamers when they first see games like this.
Note that in no way am I trying to bash Anne Diamond or the Daily Mail, I just found it quite funny to see opinions of the kinds of games I play every day, from the perspective of non-gamers. Read it yourself here.
