A Christian-subversive, deconstructionist take on the essentially Left-wing staple of thinking.
If you’re going to be anti-American Leftist (like say Prof. Ward Churchill), for everything that this country’s blamed for doing, i.e. imperialist oil warmongering, genocide, racism, misogynistic-patriarchal violence, etc… here’s your point-by-point criteria–just that it’s not going to be in concordance to your Marxist beliefs(!):
Feminism
Actually, I’m thinking more of the post-feminist kind of women’s “liberation,” where getting inebriated-promiscuous like Caligula/entitlement-crazy is what constitutes empowerment nowadays–especially the kind that sucks up all the hard-earned resources of whatever respective man, father, etc… especially Uncle Sam. I suppose that’s why many people–even some serious feminists, thought it’s ironic that in order for women to be liberated these days, they will have to rely on the sugar daddy best known as Uncle Sam (or some other big government entity). This sort of cultural behavior can ultimately compel the corporate powers that be–especially those specialized in marketing towards the female demographic, to exercise their power over the government (by way of lobbying or what not), which of course, pretty much have all jurisdiction to order the military/intelligence agencies to (presumably) engage in some illegal, imperialistic oil war–since it is what the customer wants, that will chain react how those products and services will be rendered/obtained, all the way to the top (see the African blood diamond trade, and its connections with Valentine’s Day).
Homosexuality and/or of the “Alternative Lifestyle”
Being gay, lesbian, bisexual and/or transgendered, is not only the kind of lifestyle that will offend traditionalists of the stateside/Western cultural variety, but likewise with most/all other cultures outside of the Judeo-Christian, Western-Industrial variety, like say in Far East Asia (I’ve seen plenty of examples with Chinese homophobia that will put the likes of even “Pastor” Fred Phelps to shame–and we Asians are normally from a non-Judeo-Christian tradition; just ask the Dalai Lama’s opinions on gay marriage!), or with Latin America, especially in hard-left-leaning Venezuela (Yes, El Comandante Hugo Chavez is as much of a gay-basher as his hero, Fidel Castro, since being gay is akin to capitalist excess, a la, “Before Night Falls”); or more recently, in the Islamic, Arabic world, especially in the fashionable advent of keffiyeh in the 9-11 Age!*
*Remember one of the courtroom outbursts by would-be 9-11 hijacker, a.k.a, Zacarias Moussaoui, where he blamed, if not advocated the genocide of all homosexuals–alongside Israel, America and Christendom? Or perhaps with Pres. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s, “We-have-no-homosexuals” comment at Columbia U.?! ‘Kinda makes me wonder how the likes of Robert Redford and Sean Penn would react, had they attempt something like a pro-gay marriage initiative in the so-called, “workers’ paradise,” let alone the same Arabic/Islamic culture they ironically support, in their Bush Derangement Syndrome/anti-war efforts!
Animal Rights/Vegetarianism i.e. Hayden Pannettiere’s Anti-Japanese Whaling Activism
Maybe it’s just me but, having been Chinese all my life, an awful lot of Asian cuisine seems to counter the Hindu-Buddhist stereotype/mystique of respecting all forms of life–especially if you’re a dog, a turtle, cat, reptile, traditional poultry, etc… This goes the same for those who don’t either have the broad-minded appreciation/understanding behind your average, Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, travel show dealing with foreign cuisine… and I’m just starting with Franco-Italian cooking! Hasn’t meat dishes been integral to multinational/multicultural history? Just about every culture (protected by Western political correctness) must have something that requires a living creature to be slaughtered for human consumption–even in India! In watching Bourdain’s No Reservations, I’ve learned that even though in places like France and/or Vietnam (or for that matter, my local Chinatown poultry farm/slaughterhouse), there’s something more honest, realistic about where we get our food. It’s almost a multicultural version of Ted Nugent’s, “you-can’t-grill-it-if-you-don’t-kill-it” philosophy, regarding the truth behind our supermarket mentality, where we never see the sacrifice and (literally) bloody hard work to get that living chicken or cattle, into what’s shrink-wrapped on the aisles. In fact, I’ll even opine that to bash any foreign/indigenous culture’s usage of meat-based dishes is somehow racist, since bashing one culture’s culinary heritage is to bashed their history of survival, and the means to make something culturally unique to that culture. Besides, given the food shortage issues that went on last year, doesn’t the struggling Third World needs all the meat-based food they can acquire, alongside whatever agrarian kind that is still available? It’s the kind of stuff, PETA has yet to understand, let alone appreciate…
Environmentalism
In going “Green,” poverty-stricken foreign lands in Africa, Asia, Latin America, even in Eastern Europe/Russia, have little to no economic infrastructure to make those Eco-friendly economies possible–given how the cost of converting a fossil fuel-based economy to a more Eco-friendlier is staggering, i.e. anything new tends to be expensive and time-consuming to work through. So conceptually speaking, if someone from Al Gore’s camp were to “evangelize” their anti-global warming message in a dirt-poor region of Sierra Leone, wouldn’t it be wiser to first start off with petrol-based economic development, since like everything else in life, many will have to go through developmental, “baby steps” to get to where we’re supposed to be at. Just because America’s financially well-off enough to start implementing/experimenting with 21st century, environmental-friendly economic ventures, doesn’t mean the same will be applicable with a culture who have yet to enter the 20th century economic structure! Think of it as the Al Gore version of Chairman Mao’s disastrous, Great Leap Forward… …and is that what we as Americans (if not with Westerners in general) don’t need now: another historical debacle to apologise for! With the recent price surge in gas, stateside especially, I have to personally surmise if the oil companies (including those who do business with OPEC states) are somehow in cahoots with the international/Western, anti-global warming movement, hence seriously impacting the greater lubricant of world industry and development! Like hey, it’s not like there’s no possibilities that Chevron and the like, won’t have a convenient excuse to halt further oil refinery capacity! And speaking of the Third/Developing World…
Given how crazy the developing Third World World was coping with last year’s food crisis, many (conservative pundits/intellectuals) have commented on how the bio-fuel market caused the price spike in tortillas, or at least with corn-based food stuffs in such places like (currently drug cartel-related) “war-torn” Mexico, or with (Afro-) Caribbean nations. Whenever I hear the likes of Glen Beck and Co., bemoan on the rampant waste of burning our food in our cars–ineffectively miles per gallon I might add, wouldn’t a whole lot of corn, miscellaneous, food consumable crops could be put to better use with starving nations, in need of some food “burning” inside their stomachs, so as to have something else to look forward to instead of living like animals? Off tangent, I haven’t even gone into the ironically, anti-environmental side effects over over-farming for corn-based fuel! (Unless it’s something like Jatropha.)
“McCulture,” (e.g. Hollywood Pop Cinema, TV, music)
While many in the cultural intelligentsia (stateside or otherwise) is critical of American pop culture’s influence on all other world creativity, vis-a-vis the pop, mass-consumer movie, vis-a-vis the MTV variety, it’s pure absurdity, if not hypocrisy to that the many A-Lister’s (if not likewise with the creative/cultural intelligentsia) who work in America’s entertainment industry, that lambasted American cultural imperialism, are also the ones who promote them via their “Broke Back Mountains,” or “American Pies,” etc… I mean, how many traditionalist Asian, oft-left-leaning Latin American, Shiite/Sunni Arabic cultures in the world have bemoan of this sort of Hollywood values systems, or shall I say, the lack thereof?
*the former example especially, I’m very assured isn’t very welcomed in Ahmadinejad’s Iran, and all the while providing convenient salvo for anti-American/anti-Zionist propaganda drivel!
In the end, being a (post-modernist) liberal–especially with being a limousine liberal, is what really warrants the sort of eventual, ripple effect for America-bashing! So, unless you’re a classic liberal of say, the Adam Smith school of thought, being for change might not be all that trans-formative for the better of the world, let alone America. If anything, since November 2008, it’s more like spare change we can (realistically) believe in(!)–and I’m already sensing a possibility of some folks in Hong Kong, referring to Pres. Obama as some kind of N***** in Cantonese!
So yeah: being a champagne socialist/Lexus Leftist is now the new dirty Yankee!
