Millions in America turned on their computer screen just to see the historic inauguration of president elect Barack Obama, yet some didn’t get a chance to see it.
Why? Without knowing the one’s that got in helped set internet traffic records on Tuesday as they watched the ceremonies. The demand who so high that some web sites and data networks had trouble keeping up forcing many people to go to other forms of media.
It seems irritating for us to improve so well in technology and still not able to watch the speech. It seems like a lot of websites could not keep up with the internet flood of traffic. I turned on the news today and it said that CNN internet viewers were put on a waiting list so they can view the live stream of the inauguration.
The number of visitors slowed the internet down as a whole, it was said that 40 websites were slowed down by 60 percent then their usual 100 percent . It all started when the ceremony started at 11 a.m. And many news sites were corrupted with the flood of people trying to watch it. It seems that everybody’s internet was not on full performance.
Also web surfers kept accessing whitehouse.gov to see when it was going to be updated with the new presidents portrait, that made the site way more then ten times as long to load. But Tuesday was not a record because web users went straight to the web videos instead of refreshing the web pages to get the latest updates. Election day broke the record of having 8.6 million visitors per minute while Tuesday had 5.4 million per minute.
