Commentary on the war in Iraq
America is entrenched in a war that seems impossible to win. It is a war based on religion now. What ever our initial intent was; the capture of Hussien, the hunt for WMD, peace in the Middle East.
We are now involved in a battle of faiths. Much like the Crusades we are fighting fanatics. Men and women whose belief’s most Americans can not fathom. In a country like America where any religion is allowed and we have the freedom to worship where and when we like, or change religion on a whim. How can we be as zealous as those who know not freedoms?
There are three factions of Muslims each wanting to be dominate over the other. Each believes their faith to be the only true faith and they are willing to die to protect it. What are you willing to die for, to fight against all odds for, or forsake your family and friends for?
We sit in our warm houses, with are larders and refrigerators full. We have 300 channels of television to entertain us. We have two to three cars in each family. We have running water, electricity, heat, indoor plumbing. What are we concerned for: Nothing.
Yes we have our sons, daughters, fathers and mothers fighting in a land we know only as an oil rich country that has been oppressed. If we pull out now we leave the county little better off than when we went in. The only difference is when we leave we have open civil war.
When you have a country who’s citizens choose to kill each other over their faith rather than choose to get along, you have a no win situation. The solution, if there is one, is to let the people decide by battle and the strong will out. The problem, as I see it, will the strong be any better than what we had at the start?
Is the American public ready for more attacks like 9/11/? Is the American public willing to give up more freedoms to see that our lands and our people are protected from fanatics of the world?
Here are some things you could see in your future:
- People of Muslim faiths detained in camps like in WWII.
- Security searches at train stations, bus depots, sporting events.
- Mandatory curfews
- Our schools and universities being closed to all foreign students.
- The draft being reinstated to fill all branches of the service.
These are but a few of the things we could see in our future if we don’t stop terrorism and terroristic threats before they reach out homes.
I may not agree with what the president is doing, but then you and I do not have all the facts. Congress does not have all the facts that is because members of congress cannot be trusted to keep the information secret.
Leaks abound in all agencies of the government.
What do we do when a leak occurs? We spend millions of dollars on lawyers to determine who was at fault. For what, even when we do find the person we spend years doing little or nothing about it.
Homeland security was supposed to find ways to protect the American people. So far all it has done is find ways to spend the American tax payer’s money lining the pockets of those who we put our trust in.
We have a newly elected congress were many of the victors won their seats by promising a change. In all the rhetoric I never once heard anyone propose a plan on solving the issue of the war in Iraq, homeland security fraud, how to deal with the Iran and Korean Nuclear threats.
Why is that so? It’s because they haven’t got a clue anymore than you or I on how to deal with it. All they really wanted was to be elected.
I have read comments by people that say Iraq is like Vietnam and in certain ways it may seem like it. But in Vietnam we lost many more soldiers. We spent much more money on ordinance and equipment. And it was a war the politicians would not allow us to win. Like in Korea when our troops were stopped at the 38th parallel because of political implications.
In Iraq we are again faced with political implications, we have to appease the other Arab nations or face fighting them as well. Is that what we want? Do we want to have a major war against the Arab nations?
What of the monetary consideration for the war? The American public is fitting the bill now; however, I would like to think that once stability is established in the country we can sue for restitution which could come in many options. I have never seen anything official on it, but I would suspect that the Kuwaiti government has or should have reimbursed the USA for helping it. We just don’t see it in the public News. Maybe some idiot journalist should do some leg work and do a story about that.
I have no great opinion on how to end the conflict in iraq. I have no suggestions on what can be done to bring our troops home. I have no great solution to any of the problems our great country is facing.
But then neither does anyone with the power to do something about it.
