Is It Your Life?

Your Life Your Choices is a booklet found on the American Veterans site.  George Bush suspended the book, possibly due to the content.  Barack Obama has however, asked that the book return into existence, with a few changes.

I copied the booklet before the changes could be made, and was totally besieged by the questions asked, as well as the negativity regarding life-sustaining equipment.

The American people being concerned as they are regarding the HR3200 Health care bill and the HR676 bill, both now on the floor, awaiting our government officials to return from recess, wait in anticipation.  The passing of these bills is a mere stepping-stone into a future that will corrupt our Nation.

The senior’s in our country are apprehensive about the healthcare offered by the government since there has been an enormous debate about the “death panels.”  Of course, the Liberal members of each party argued there was no mention of death panels in the HR 3200; claiming it just another fear tactic being used by the opposing party.  However, as recent as last week, the President said that section of the bill would be removed.  If in fact it was never in the bill, as claimed by the Liberals, how can it constitute a removal? You cannot remove something that is non-existent.

It seems no one in the Senate, or the President  has  read theHR3200 bill in it’s entirety thus creating a vast misunderstanding when trying to explain it to the people.  Our government tends to believe that we are a people with insignificant minds, who in no way would understand the HR3200.  Unfortunately,  for our government officials, we have been and will continue to be the significant beings who selected them to be our servants.  Once that became  a recognizable factor to our President and Senate, and we the people began pointing out aspects in the bill that were derogatory to our insurance needs, we watched a slumping government. 

Submitting the book Your Life Your Choices at the exact time the HR3200 was being discussed in Town Hall meetings across the Nation was not a positive call.

Those of us who are already knotted with fear about the whole health care episode, needs to read the booklet.  It is forty-two pages crammed full of negative information about death preventives.

On page 40 titled, Severe Dementia; it states; Imagine you have severe dementia.  This means you:

       Cannot think or talk clearly, are confused and no longer recognize family members

       seem uninterested in what’s happening around you

       are not in any pain

       are able to walk, but get lost without supervision

       need help with getting dressed, bathing, and bowel and bladder functions.

Check the answer that best describes how you would feel about having severe dementia for the rest of your   The answers to select are as follows:life.

1.       Life like this would be difficult, but acceptable

2.       Life like this would be worth living, but just barely

3.       Life like this would not be worth living

The continuance of the page asks if you would like to receive treatments that would be beneficial to the condition.  There are three answers, you may check only one in response to; CPR, Feeding tube, Dialysis, Mechanical ventilator, comfort care or other treatments.  Those three answers are as follows:

1.       I would want to receive this treatment

2.       I would rather die naturally and not have this treatment

3.       I don’t know/can’t answer now

At the very bottom of the page they want to know the reasons for your decisions.

This part of the booklet hit quite hard with me.  My mother suffers with dementia, and has for the last five years.  She, like all others who have dementia, has her good days as well as a few bad days.  Because of the excellent care she receives, her good days out number by far the bad times.

 Bringing this booklet back from suspension only fulfilled my negative resilience toward the HR3200.  Are there in fact death panels in the bill?  Of course there are!  Your Life Your Choice is a booklet that, in my estimation, puts an individual under a heavy guilt load which in turn, after answering the questions, gives the government the opportunity to exercise the death panels mentioned in the HR3200. The forty-two page booklet is a guide to suicide; or gives the government control over your life.

How many people have you known who received CPR and survived?  How many have you known that required dialysis?  I surveyed my acquaintances with people who have had both treatments, my answer to my own question is; How wonderful we have the medical knowledge that assist in sustaining our own life, or the lives of those we love.
