I was recently asked about the latest in the Middle East. And this is as bad as it gets.

Simply put both sides in that particular region of the world don’t even know why they hate each other. Please notice I said region and not country. After world war two the allies, and not just the United states, set up what we know today as Israel. During the past fifty years lines have been drawn over and over; pacts, agreements, semi treaties, and every legal/political arrangement known have been created, broken and recreated. In the end two primary groups are stuck living in complete chaos. At this point children have grown up on both sides learning what their parents teach them about the situation and as each generation goes by, the parents know less and less. Not that they are any less intellectually able as anyone else, but simply a product of diminishing returns. Each parent is more and more biased as the years go on. The rest of the world really has no interest in the actual geographical area except for political needs. There is no solution, and will never be any solution. Yeah, if someone launched rockets at the United States or any other wealthy nation we would of course send in the troops. However, Israel is not a wealthy nation and almost completely dependent on other nations for money, arms, food, and just about everything else. As awesome as the armed forces of Israel are, they will never find all the people they need to stop future attacks.

The only real solution is horrible to think of but none the less true. For Israel to stop terror attacks from Ha-mas the only way to do it is let their own die with each attack and do nothing. I know how that just sounded but if you set aside your emotions and do a simple thought experiment, you might understand the following. The first few years of a passive policy would be nothing less than the worst situation imaginable. Watching people die, especially children and doing nothing is the worst thing I can think of. But after a few years the world and not just wealthy nations would actually start to care. Then and only then could the real terrorists be targeted. This wouldn’t work in any other part of the world but it is a last resort unique to this region of the world. In the end the entire nation of Israel would be seen as a passive people plagued with terrorist. Then and only then would Israel be a whole nation with no lines drawn through it and no regions set aside for non Israeli’s to live.

There has to be a winner to conflicts such as this. And clearly the only winner the world could ever tolerate is Israel. But in the end this would never happen. Lets face it, no one wants peace in this region. There is never going to be peace when both sides don’t even know why they are fighting. The world doesn’t care. Religion does allot of good around the world but for all good that is done, there is always an equal amount of bad. In this case Religion is the worst thing ever for these people stuck in conflict with no way out. If two kids fight over a ball in elementary school, the teacher simply removes the ball. How can you remove the ground which both sides are supposed to be fighting for. Nuclear weapons come to mind but who is qualified to be the teacher that drops those nukes.
