Could Jesse Jackson Jr. be guilty of trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat? If he is convicted, he would be a disgrace to his country and his family.

The title of this ABC article is: Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr is “Senate Candidate No. 5, Says He Did Nothing Wrong”. This is stunning. Who would have thought that the eldest son of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a prominent Civil Rights activist and a minister, WHO IS A LAWMAKERwould be implicated in an investigation of this magnitude?

The first sentence of this article is: “Chicago Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. D-Ill., is the anonymous “Senate Candidate No. 5” whose emissaries Gov. Rod Blagojevich repo-rtedly offered him up to $1 million to name him to the US Senate…” As Jackson Jr is the son of a prominent civil rights leader and a minister, this is DISGRACEFUL. We would think that people connected to the church would have some moral/ethical values.

On top of that, “According to the FBI affidavit in the case, Blagojevich “stated (that) he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5” that provided Blagojevich” with something “tangible up front”. What’s “tangible up front”? Money, of course. So is Jesse Jackson Jr involved in bribery?

“Jackson told ABC News this morning (that) he was contacted by federal prosecutors in Chicago whom he said “asked me to come in and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process”. This is getting more suspicious by the minute: why would “authorities” ask the younger Jackson to “come in and” share information if he wasn’t suspicious or at least “a person of interest” in this investigation?

James Montgomery, Jackson Jr’s attorney, acknowledged that his client was being investigated as the possible “Senate Candidate #5”, but quickly added that “Jackson has never authorized anyone to seek the Governor’s support in support of money, fundraising or other things of value”. Notice the strong words in this statement: “never” and“anyone”. If Jackson Jr was totally above the law, there would be no need to use such strong words.

Jackson answered “I don’t know” when reporters asked if he was Candidate #5, but again emphasized that “I am not part of this investigation”. Jackson Jr. has contradicted himself in this statement: is he or isn’t he involved?

“Jackson said that he would meet with investigators as quickly as possible after consulting with a lawyer, Montgomery said”. Doesn’t Jackson Jr have a lawyer already?

Jackson Jr stated flatly that “It would be impossible for me to have a conversation that would involve any quid quo pro or any payments or offers. An impossibility to an absolute certainty”. Here’s yet another denial.

According to the FBI affidavit, “’Senate Candidate #5′ played a key role in the governor’s efforts to obtain something of value in exchange for the Senate appointment…” This is corruption by definition.

On top of that, “Blagojevich and Jackson met Monday afternoon and said he was close to making a decision as to whom he would appoint ” and “The governor was arrested early Tuesday morning to “stop a crime spree”.

“Jackson Jr said Tuesday that he met with Blagojevich for the first time Monday “for the first time in years” and voiced his desire to fill Obama’s Senate seat”. This is the strongest indication yet that Jackson Jr is involved.

Jackson Jr. said that he was “shocked” by Blagojevich’s arrest adding that “if these allegations are proved true, I am outraged I am outraged by the pay-to-play schemes hatched at the highest levels of our state government”.

Jackson Jr then held a press conference after which he said that “at no point in time” did he consider sitting in Obama’s Senate seat.

Finally, ABC had the last word about Jackson Jr’s possible involvement: “Jackson Jr is one of a number of Illinois political figures whom the FBI is expected to interview in Chicago and Washington”. Add it all up and what have we got? Jackson Jr could be hiding something sinister behind all those denials.

Bottom Line: Jackson Jr. will be a disgrace to his family if he is convicted of a crime of this magnitude.
