Congressman Joe Wilson shouted “liar!” in reply to President Obama’s claim that the new health care plan will not be available to illegal aliens. Because of Wilsons past and his political policies the question of racism is likely to come up.

Joe Wilson, the Republican representative for the 2nd congressional district in South Carolina called Obama a liar concerning his health care plan’s coverage of illegal aliens. Wilson worked as an aid during the early formative years of his political career for the then governor of South Carolina Strom Thurmond and his political philosophy is traditionally right of center. The question of course that will be asked is, was the topic of health coverage for illegal aliens so stirring as to cause his outburst because he perceived a true lie on Obama’s part, or was the thought of supporting non nationals that will be mostly non white, simply that infuriating.

Knowing the mans heart is impossible, but perhaps knowing his mind may shed some light.Wilson held the largest town hall meeting in South Carolina’s state history earlier this week in the state capital of Colombia, according to the Beaufort Tribune which is the local newspaper for Beaufort the location of another town hall meeting held Wednesday with a showing of about 1000 people and then another at a local high school with about a 1000 also. Again, according to The Beaufort Tribune Wilson received Dr. Jameson Taylor, director of research for the South Carolina Policy Council, a non profit think tank that works with the Heritage Foundation. Dr. Taylor addressed the people saying that the majority of Americans who are currently insured will necessarily have to switch their plans and that 75% will be placed into Medicare. Dr. Taylor is also quoted saying “Trillion is the new billion, so the dollar is the new dime”, speaking to the actual costs of Obama’s plan in terms of inflation.

Wilson is also well known for saying “If a government run health plan is good enough for the American people, it’s good enough for Congress”, Wilson has been very clear in his opposition to the Presidents health reform efforts, and it should be noted that he has apologized for the outburst. According to the Charleston newspaper, The Post and Courier, Congressman Wilson said in a statement “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me, while I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”
