Israel gets a lot of stick for being some kind of evil power. But to be honest perhaps they have a point, and their policy is a little bit just.
Lets be honest: Israel has a point I realize that its possible that I’ll get some stick for this idea, so I think I should say:
I’m not saying that Israel foreign policy, and all the actions of the state and police have always been correct
I’m not saying Israel has done everything as well as it could have
However, let me suggest this to you, Israel, has a point of view, and its not invalid.
To help explain this point, lets skip through a quick history of Israel. Remember world war one? Long time ago I know, but the British government promised the Israeli’s a land of their own in the Middle East, in the Balfour Dec. They also promised the same land to the Arabs. To solve this problem, they just split the land up between France and themselves. Wait no, that wasn’t to solve the problem that was just because we were greedy.
It turns out that, creating random news states causes problems. Odd that huh? Well, one of the problems was that there were Jews and Arabs living in Palestine. It wasn’t much of a problem until the Holocaust. This drove a lot of Jews out of Europe. Because if were totally honest it wasn’t just the Germans who hated them, and they wanted to escape all us bastards. Fair enough huh? You know what else, they decided that, as living peacefully got them almost totally wiped out, that Jews would now have to fight to ensure that they would survive, to ensure that no one would wipe them out again. Seems fair enough right? I mean, if you a few million down you don’t let it happen again.
So, Britain is protecting Palestine, not a state by the way, never was. It’s got Jews, its got Arabs in it. The Jews and Arabs fight. Israel gets a tiny state. So small it is just 9 miles in width at some point!!! But, this being too much for the Arab, all the surrounding state attack tiny newly formed Israel. Some how they survive.
Now what you say? Well, remember what we said about the size of Israel? Well, it was a serious issue. Remember what we said about Jews not wanting to be wiped off the map? Well, all the Arab states around the place kept committing themselves to the destruction of Israel, to wiping it off the map, So, Israel invaded them, and took them out before they could take Israel out. Israel also took enough land to defend its borders, the West Bank and Gaza in fact.
Then 73 Yum Kippur war, Arabs attack again. Remember, Israel has a tiny slither of land, look at the map, go on now, look it up, see how small it is. Look at how much the Arabs have. Seem fair that they complain about Israel? Not really.
So, why is Israel so brutal? Well, what else can be done? The Palestinians won’t leave, they can’t become citizens (they’d be a majority, leading to the end of the safe Jewish state), and Israel can’t create a state that hates them and shares an un-defendable border with them!
The Palestinians have refused to leave to Egypt, and refused compromise (in the Oslo accords Israel offered 90% of the land back but it was decline). If terrorists continue to attack your state, and refuse reasonable compromise you have to act to crush them right? What other chance does a little state realistically have?
I said at the start, I’m not trying to defend everything Israel has done, so don’t go asking me to justify when security forces killed some boy ten years ago who was holding a stone. All I say is, I think Israel has a point.
