This article suggests that the government report on the failings of MG Rover are pointless, as we already know capitalist democracy is a sham. But what to do?
We read today that the government report on the failure of MG Rover is due out soon. It will asses if the government was right to pump millions of £s of tax payers money into the firm, before it collapsed.
The fact is, that there is no need for this report. I think it has become abundantly clear over the last few years that capitalist democracy is not about people. The people tied up in the MG Rover collapse are still out of work. The managers are doing find, making off with over 40 million in bonuses. I expect that the government is pretty happy too. They have managed to employ some of their friends on the 16 million pound investigation. So, what is the result of this business failure? The managers, who drove the business to ruin, walk about rich. The MPs find some jobs for their mates for a while, and perhaps found some good rhetoric to get some extra votes next election. The ordinary people, who trained at one job, and wanted to work and be productive all their lives? They’re still unemployed, their lives and dreams shattered.
This is capitalism; this is democracy under capitalism. I a way it makes a great deal of sense. I mean, lets be honest, no one wants companies that waste money and are failing over many wasteful years. But the corruption and the waste of pointless investigations can’t be good for the people or for capitalism.
Not only is the system wasteful and corrupt, but it also doesn’t stand up for the average person. If a plant shuts down in the area, then the government should be just as worried with helping people out as it should with helping companies out. No one doubt what capitalism can do, or that we need companies. However there must be a balance. The balance has become un-necessarily pivoted in favour of business.
So, in practical terms, what it necessary is an understanding that government has a responsibility to the people as well as the economy. The government will not do this without pressure. Remember, If you kick up enough of a fuss over enough time then the government will listen. Pressure over time, this is the key. Lay down and you will be stood upon!!
