A mere few hours after Michael Jackson’s passing, many are already commenting on his life. So many questions and rumors abound at this time. But there are a couple of things that are not being asked. And they are important issues.

Less thank two hours ago Michael Jackson was pronounced dead in LA.  The details at this point are sketchy at best.  Many rumors abound and I am confident more are to come over the next few days, weeks, and months.  Eventually some truths will come out but likely not many.  As I write this, we await the first concrete details to be released from the hospital he was pronounced dead at, UCLA Medical Center.

During this past 120-some minutes I have heard many things already said about Jackson by many different people: friends, celebrities, news people, and others.  Some of the things being said about him are that he was quirky, uber-talented, mesmerizing, world famous, universally recognizable, unique, strange, entrepreneurial, weird, off-beat, a civil rights leader, ground breaker, trailblazer, as talented and influential as Elvis and so, so much more.  Good or bad, there are many opinions of Michael Jackson held by a vast number of individuals for varied reasons.  Again, I am sure there are many more views and adjectives to describe him that are to come.

Of all we have heard to this point, there are a few things that have yet to be brought up.  One of the first things that I notice is the surprise of his untimely death.  I would reckon that for most people at the age of 50, his age, it would be a fairly shocking or surprising death.  But Jackson was a frail man with health issues and concerns that swirled around him for years.  Given his obvious fame and known legal and financial troubles, there must have been an enormous amount of stress on this man.  Most surely this had to have a negative impact on his life and contributed to his death.  I would like to say that I hope that when more information does come to light that the cause of death has nothing to do with drugs or that type of thing.  At any rate, no matter the cause of his demise, Jackson has fulfilled the ultimate statistic, one that every one of us will also at some time become a part of: 10 out of 10 people die.  We all have a date to depart from this life and we don’t know what that date is.  When death comes it may be at any time and we may be any age.  No one is immune from death and all will face it, eventually.

Another thing that I have heard nothing mentioned about is Jackson’s faith.  I understand that he was a private man, fanatical about his privacy one might say.  But with all of the comments, praise and commentary pouring out about him and his life, I would think that someone, somewhere would have made a comment about his faith or lack thereof.  Certainly he had some sort of belief system; I do not know what it was though and am not hearing anything about it.  I find that deeply troubling.

Michael Jackson was a ‘god’ to some, I’m sure of that.  His fans made him into an idolatrous figure that they worshipped.  They are building make-shift shrines to him as I type.  And I am sure those will continue and grow in size, scope and elaborateness very fast.  Would he be pleased by this?  I can not say.  If I knew what his faith was I might be able to give some speculation on this.  But as I have said, I don’t and it doesn’t seem to be an issue of importance at this moment.  Well, with the death of anyone the thought of where their soul is heading should be the most monumental issue and first question to come to all of our minds.  I pray that he had a solid faith in Christ Jesus and is with Him now.  I shudder to think that anyone – anyone – would die without Jesus and be not with Him but eternally separated from Him, in torment forever, in hell.
