Although he has vehemently denied having anything to do with the death of Michael Jackson, Dr. Conrad Murray, his personal physician for his planned London concerts, has become the primary object of police investigating the singer’s death.
CNN reported that police took evidence from two of the doctor’s medical facilities and one of his homes in their search for information that would clarify how Jackson died.
Speaking through his lawyer, Dr. Murray has denied from the beginning that he had anything to do with Mr. Jackson’s death. In the ensuing weeks, however, he has come under more scrutiny as the investigation has continued.
Last week it was discovered that Diprivan, a powerful anesthetic used in surgical procedures, was in the rented home that Michael Jackson was occupying at the time of his death.
It had been rumored for several weeks that Mr. Jackson had been taking the drug to aid him with sleep.
Diprivan is normally used as an anesthetic in surgical procedures such as colonoscopies to induce drowsiness while the operation is being done. It has a short effect life and when stopped the patient is almost immediately awake.
Diprivan is administered intravenously and it is necessary to have an anesthesiologist present to give the medication. It is also necessary to monitor the patient’s vital signs while the drug is being administered.
Medical experts, like CNN’s Sonjay Gupta say that it is highly unusual to have this particular drug administered outside of a hospital setting because of the nee to monitor vital signs.
It has been reported that some authorities suspect that the drug may have been what caused Jackson’s death.
The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office has not yet received results from toxicology tests performed on the singer when he died. They are expected within the week.
CNN’s legal analyst/expert Jeffery Toobin, stated that “the police usually do not act in the manner that the authorities investigating Michael Jackson’s death are acting unless they expect to charge someone.”
Although Dr. Murray has denied involvement in Michael Jackson’s death, he is beginning to look like the primary suspect.
