Unless you live under a rock, you have heard about octuplet mom, Nadya Suleman. There is just so many things wrong with this story, that I don’t even know where to begin.

Welfare Mom Or Not?

First of all, Nadya doesn’t have a job. She told Ann Curry that for the last ten years she has been living off of $168,000 dollars worth of disability payments totaling $168,000 and around $50,000 in student loans. She adamantly denied any welfare assistance. IShortly afterwards, the media reported that Nadya Suleman receives $490.00 a month in food stamps. Her publicist responded, “She (Nadya) doesn’t regard that as welfare, but as payments available to people with needs.” Ah….what does she think the definition of welfare is? Welfare, according to Encarta, is: “aid to people in need. Financial aid and other benefits for people who are unemployed, below a specific income level, or otherwise requiring assistance, especially when provided by a government agency or program.”

Secondly, Medi-Cal, California’s version of health care for the poor, paid for the prenatal care, the enormous cost of the birth, and will pay an estimated 1 million dollars for the eight infants neonatal intensive care unit stay. Of course, if there are any lasting medical conditions, diseases, or disorders Medi-Cal will also have to cover the treatment for those as well. Again, if this doesn’t classify as welfare, then what does?

Three Kids Already On Federal Assistance And Eight More May Follow

I would be very surprised if Nadya doesn’t file SSI paperwork on all of these infants the moment they are released to her care. Premature infants automatically qualify for SSI payments…simply based on their premature birth. And, it is very true that these children are at a very high risk for cerebral palsy, developmental delays, respiratory disease, heart disease, etc.. because of their premature birth.

Nadya already has three “disabled” children that are each receiving a reported $800.00 a month in SSI payments. One child had a speech impediment, one child has ADHD, and one child has autism. I do not know to what degree these children are afflicted, but I do know that they shouldn’t legally be receiving SSI payments. As a mother of a handicapped child, I know the rules of SSI like the back of my hand.

Liar Liar Underwear On Fire

The lies and fraud of Nadya Suleman seem to never end. According to SSI rules, a single parent can not have more than $2000 dollars in resources for a child to qualify for SSI payments. Yet, in the Ann Curry interview she claimed that she paid for the IVF with money she saved from her own disability payments. A single cycle of IVF can cost up to 15,000. Her three children should have never qualified for SSI payments. Instead, she would have been required to spend that $15,000 on her children’s care.

It is quite clear that she either lied about how she paid for the IVF cycles or committed SSI fraud!

Sadly, it doesn’t stop there. The photos from the last ten years show an undeniable facial change in Nadya. Her lips are plumper, her chin is wider, her cheek bones are higher, and her nose is elongated and narrow. Ironically, she now looks much like the Brad-pack mom. It is clear that she has had plastic surgery. Again, if she had money for these elective cosmetic procedures, then she didn’t need federal and state money to care for her children.

The IVF and plastic surgery are done. One could argue that she can just focus on being a better person and mother. But, Nadya Suleman just doesn’t learn. Even now, after having eight infants that she can not even buy diapers for, she is out buying MAC makeup and getting acrylic nails.

Six Children And Homeless – To – Fourteen Children And A Mansion

The latest news in this unfolding tragedy comes from TMZ. Documents have been discovered showing that the tiny home, owned by the Nadya’s mother, is in foreclosure. The note hasn’t been paid for over ten months. So, what does Nadya do? She goes shopping for a new million dollar home. Yes, that is right…a million dollar home! Apparently, she is counting her chickens before they hatch. She might be planning reality shows, interviews, magazine covers, etc.. but I don’t think any entity is stupid enough to touch her story. People are furious about the irresponsibly, lies, and selfishness Nadya Suleman oozes, and will certainly be ready to lynch anyone who pays her for her story.

Ethics Of Implanting Six Embryos

Of course, the fertility doctor is culpable in this story. It is illegal in the UK to implant more than two embryos into a women. Here in the United States, it may not be illegal, but it is certainly an unethical medical decision. Implanting six embryos into any woman, is a danger to her health and the fetuses. Animals have litters like this, not humans!

Who Is To Blame?

Nadya Suleman is obviously using procreation as a paycheck, and the lies and fraud should land her in jail. However, much of the blame should be placed on California Government offices for letting the situation escalate from six children to fourteen. Nadya Suleman has been in the system- food stamps, social security, Medi-Cal, and who knows how many other programs. The case workers should have already reported Nadya to social services. She is unemployed, she and six children sleep in one bedroom, and three of her children already have disabilities. Red flags should have been flying for all of her case workers.
