The internet has become our way of life. We eat, and breathe the internet, and often wonder how we coped previously without it. Technology has taken us way beyond where we could have imagined two decades ago. Newspapers, and magazines, are going out of business, or have switched some of their businesses online to survive.
The Cyber Security Act is currently winding its way through Congress, and should give all US residents reasons to pause. This law will give the power to President Obama to take control of the internet whenever he see fit. This means that at anytime the government can take control, and shut off the internet without notice. What circumstances could warrant should an unprecedented step? All indications so far is the government’s determination to take this country along a Socialist, Communist, or Marxist’s path, but only time will tell the degree we will reach.
The world sat and watched the Iranian government shut down access to its people in June this year, while they demonstrated in the streets after their elections. All communications were closed to the outside world, to hide the atrocities in the streets. The demonstrators were tear-gassed, beaten, and killed in the streets, but the Iranian government wanted this hidden from the rest of the world. The government, however, did not know how to shut down Twitter, so the people who were signed up on Twitter, were still able to get some information to the outside world, and sent out some pictures from cell phone cameras.
What happened in Iran, and happens in countries such as Venezuela, could happen here if we do not stand up and say “No”. It may seem far-fetched to those who are not watching all the changes around us, and the speed at which it is taking place. As a society, we have become so pre-occupied, that we will wake up one morning, and find that this country has taken 180 degree turn. If congress passed this Cyber Security Act, and give the President this power, what will it be next, Twitter, and Face Book? At first the President was reluctant to condemn the government of Iran, and only did so after coming under pressure, from Republicans and criticism from the media. The question that needs to be asked is, “Why did it take the President so long to voice support for the Iranian demonstrators. We have a lot to learn from the Iranians, who are fighting for their freedom.
The government’s plan is to flood the system with several issues, such as healthcare, and side issues, to keep our minds off the economy, and the other bills being passed in Congress to take away our freedoms. This is strategic planning, because if people are so tied up with their own personal problems, they do not have time to keep track of what is going on around them, until they wake up and find they are no longer free, and then ask “what happened?” If there is a time in our lives that we need to be vigilant, it is now. The Obama Czars are working overtime, and undercover, to take away our rights, shut down the independent media, and now they are going after the internet. What will it be next?
Where are the people who were outraged over wiretapping when the previous administration introduced it, to protect us after September 11, 2001? Are we so pre-occupied and do not see our freedoms are being eroded on a daily basis? What will it take for us to wake up, and see what is happening?
There is no reason why the government should control the internet. No reason has been given for this unusual step. This control of the internet is not to protect the government systems, such as the FBI, CIA, and other government agencies, but the government plans to take control over the entire internet. This is wrong, and is just another of fundamental change that then Candidate Obama promised five days before the presidential election.
The Obama government since January 20th 2009, only nine months ago, have in its control two car companies, commercial banks, took over the education funding, by sidelining Sallie Mae and other organizations, from participating. They are also planning to pass strong laws to “muzzle the media” such as Fox News, and plan to take over 16% of the US economy for healthcare, which will turn this country’s health system upside down. They have taken away the rights of bondholders, and are now dictating the salaries of the banks. Now the internet is being targeted. Our Freedom is at stake, and the First Amendment and the US Constitution will mean very little in six months if we do not say “No”. Now, before it is way too late.
