Some thoughts on how I think Obama should present himself.
I am watching what steps Obama has made since he was nominated and am not pleased in spite of the fact that he represents change. There has been little coverage about what he intends to do, the one interview where he adamantly said that he would not divulge more than a certain amount about how he would get America out of its current crisis is not enough. There was a small mention of his work towards improving a beleaguered health system. But people are still under the shroud of his predecessor and the shoe throwing incident along with America’s dogged attempt to keep its control over two large frictional points while facing its worse economic crisis since the depression. In addition with the announcement of a worsening continued hunger around the world, due to the increased attention towards bailing out large companies and its adverse effect on attending to the needs of developing nations, an American leader should have announced some plan to aid those affected nations. Neither Bush nor Obama has gone public on those 60 odd nations that have been thrust into a worsening hunger crisis, most of them in Africa.
So what about the charisma that Obama has shone onto the viewing public with his coy remarks on how his daughter will be getting a pet? What about the presidential couple being interviewed together showing how the hubby relinquished some limelight on his wife as the master of the household? It offers a soft touch to tough times but does not fit the current economical or political moment. It does fit a culture, which is ill equipped to solve its misery with the current political leadership bending towards bailing out automakers, as if nothing else matters.
True Obama has proposed changes to the health system so that its citizens can find affordable care instead of just theorizing on how other health care models have benefited Sweden and Canada. Obama should have continued to speak out on getting alternative energy plans into operation! But the American public needs effective energy changes and focus on the worsening food crisis that has depended on the billions which is still geared for companies whose executives make unending appeals for billions, while still taking executive jets to meetings and getting Republican party favors to boot. But instead the American public is fed news of the big inaugural party with singers and celebrities, where there could have been at least a token white person on the roster.
