The faults of fashion vs. lifestyle.
I am what you may call a freak. What that is if you do not know is the cross between a skateboarder, a goth, an anarchist, a punk-rocker, and a thrift store junkie. Add them together and you have me. I am twenty-two years old and I have been this way for eight of them. I have always believed in trying to find substance and piece of mind through this lifestyle and have done so pretty well.
What I do not understand for the life of me, is why now all I see are these teeny-bopping kids with no inclination or understanding of this lifestyle that I lead going around with mo-hawks and Hot Topic clothes, listening to all this fake punk rock music and thinking that it’s cool. These kids have no idea what I and my friends have gone through to make it possible for the kids to go around with their fashion and not get picked on or beat up.
They do not understand the trials and tribulations that I myself have gone through because of my lifestyle and the lifestyle that only a very few people in the entire world understand and live by.
All I want to know is when the lifestyle that I lead became a fashion.
How did this happen?
It angers me to no end, and what I do not understand is why and how the parents of these kids could allow such things? Where is the discipline and tact from that aspect? Where are these so-called parents? When I was 15, 16, 17, and 18, i was homeless because of my unbending tenacity and just the fact that I was a kid that would not accept change. My parents were born in the forty’s and fifties, where family values and morals were set into children and were expected to obey these standards.
Sometimes I wonder how American morals and values sunk so low. We now see twelve year old girls wearing mini-skirts and high heels like some Hollywood prostitute and it’s accepted. Guy’s walking around in girl’s pants for whatever reason that makes them look like a bunch of transvestites. People watching our president to see if he uses his Blackberry that day.
It’s extremely depressing.
The way this country is going is appalling, and something needs to change.
To sum it all up, fashion should not equal lifestyle, and the people that do it for the lifestyle that are trying to make their own lives better for being creative and free in their own minds are the the ones that suffer for it.
