The author’s point of view on former President Jimmy Carter recent comment about racism toward President Barack Obama.

Former President Jimmy Carter expressed in an interview with NBC, that the recent outburst from Wilson, a South Carolina republican was motivated by racism.  If it was or not, that seems to be Mr. Carter’s belief and he knows where he is coming from.  As a former president, and a white man himself, he has seen many things, heard many things and witnessed many things, that we do not have access to, as mere civilians.  If he made such a strong comment, there must be some substance to it, at least among the circle that he has move around in.

We all know that racism still exists, and that the day that it is totally gone from this planet, is very far in the future.  I think that Rep. Wilson’s outburst was not racially motivated, but more political.  I think is wrong to attribute racial roots to every incident that President Obama is involved in.  What I can see, is that this president has had many more issues of disrespect, than any other former presidents, and that he has had to prove himself harder, because somehow, it seems that it is expected more of him, than of every other administration.  Now, I do not know if it is because he is African American or because he happened to inherit the country’s mess after the election.

Racially motivated or not, the outbursts and comments about our president, are totally inappropriate and disrespectful.  It only shows that Americans disrespect their leader; that our nation is an easy target for terrorists because we are divided in our allegiance.  If we don’t like a president, then that is what elections are for.  Barack Obama said it himself, after the election.  He said that if we didn’t like his performance in the next four years, that we had the power to change it by executing our vote.

So instead of crucifying the President, at every chance we have, why not let him do what he was elected for, his job, and stop wasting his time with silly outbursts, comments and inappropriate scenes.  He has a country to lead, to lead out of the mess that we are in, so instead of being part of the political or racial circus that is going on, we should support our leader, and show the world that United, We Stand.
