The significance of Mrs. Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter’s pregnancy in politics.

The moral standard in American politics set by Mr. Bill Clinton is that only qualifications matter. When Mr. Clinton got himself in trouble, he tried to justify him self by saying a person’s morality does not matter. I remember the debate on whether it was correct to disregard a public officials personal life and only worry about their qualifications.

I bring this up because Mr. McCain’s running mate has an issue that many in the liberal news media are trying to exploit. A 17-year-old daughter of Mrs. Palin is pregnant and unmarried. Furthermore, it is reported this daughter plans to keep the child and marry the father.

There are many issues for me. There is pre-marital sex. Parental guidance is also an issue. Being a born again Christian, I also am concerned about the strength of the Palin family’s faith.

In my opinion, non of these issues disqualify Mrs. Palin from being vice president of the United States of America. The vice president’s role is defined by the constitution as “…Vice President succeeds to the presidency if the President is removed, unable to discharge the powers and duties of office, dies, or resigns” (Wikepedia 2008). Therefore, the American vice president just needs to be able to replace the president if need should arise.

In my opinion, a good president is a person who is a good administrator, leads with strength, respects the American worker and taxpayer, and has good moral character. Mrs. Palin is the individual running for the vice presidents job, not her daughter. In addition, Mrs. Palin is more qualified to be president then Mr. Obama. Mr. Obama has never been a city mayor, state governor, and/or administrator. Mrs. Palin has experience as city, state, and private administrator.

Furthermore, Palin has governed against corruption and entrenched power. The governor of Alaska was a type of politican that almost everyone hates. He was using the office of governor as his own personal kingdom. Mr. Palin cut spending and worked to end corruption in Alaska state government. When did Mr. Biden and Mr. Obama work in congress against corruption and wasteful spending?

Now the real story of Palin’s daughter is going to be repeated every ten minutes in the liberal news media. I know that as I listen to the radio at work I will be hearing this story on every news briefing every ten minutes. I am also confident the TV news stations will also be repeating it every chance they get.

Their problem will be that they will have to answer how they claim to be the party of the unwed pregnant teen and they are beating up on Palin and her family. Mr. Obama likes to talk about the people in America who have been abandoned are struggling. I wonder if Mr. Obama includes pregnant teens in this list of people.

We all ready know that Mr. Obama got himself in trouble speaking on this issue a while back. If I am correct, his statement about the teen girl being punished with a child was not too popular. For weeks Mr. Obama had to defend himself for his remarks.

Another, remark Mr. Obama made was that family is off limits. I myself criticized Obama for allowing his young daughters to be interviewed by a Hollywood news service agency. My criticism of Mr. Obama was that it was poor judgment of him to allow his daughters to be subjected to the influences of fame and fortune at such a young age, especially in light of Mr. Obama stating family is of limits.

For the most part, family should be off limits. Every one confronts life and suffers wounds from the challenge. What is happening in the Palin family is something that happens in American families everyday. As long as the candidate is not complicit in major violations of moral code, their family should be off limits. We all know news people have very little morality. However, how many people would want the intimate details of their lives reported every five seconds in the electronic news?

American family values are great. These values include helping family members in times of difficult challenges. Working through challenges, in calm, rational, and mature manner is also part of American values. Not throwing people in the garbage can because of mistakes is also an American family value. Respecting people for how they weather the storm is another American family value.

In closing, today in the modern world many of us are facing challenges that we would prefer not to deal with in life. However, everyday people being challenged by life do their jobs and perform well in their careers. Furthermore, the credentials of the republican candidate for vice president in 2008 are composed of administrative experience in dealing with corruption and wasteful spending.
