A group of conservative Polish Catholics opposes the concert of Madonna in Poland in the day of Assumption of Virgin Mary.
The group has a strong supporter – catholic Radio Maryja, famous for its involvement in politics and the sway it holds on the six million of its listeners in a 38-million country.
Poland has always been very catholic, and the Feast of Assumption is one of the key religious festivals, and a national holiday. It seems natural that in that day Poles would want to relax, however this is not the case. The upcoming concert of Madonna and the singer herself have been criticized. The newspaper “Nasz Dziennik”, printed counterpart to Radio Maryja reminds the readers that Madonna has been on numerous occasions condemned by the Church. The article describes Madonna’s erotic adventures, commenting on her life style and reminding that the offense of religious feelings is still punishable in Poland. The offensiveness of the public displays of Madonna is strongly felt in the country of John Paul the second. Madonna has been described as a borderline Satanist, consciously mocking Christianity.
A petition has already been made to stop the concert of Madonna in Poland.
