An in-depth about what president Obama had to say about relationships in our country and what he will do for it. I compare the points that President Obama has made with the life of Jesus Christ.

  1. President Obama made it clear with all that were listening that we had a very difficult road ahead. Our country is in a great deal of turmoil and the future may not look so bright but his message to us is that we must persevere. This is in parallel with Jesus Christ right before the Passion. He said to his disciples that the path they are to take will not be an easy one but will be worth it for eternal salvation with God shall be theirs.
  2. Obama said that blacks, whites, and Hispanics, all with different experiences and backgrounds were able to get together to work side by side and help others and the community. Christ was accepting of all people. To be able to achieve in life both before and after death, we must learn to live in harmony and work together
  3. Obama said, “We must find a way to live together as one human family” This statement can be directly related to God’s divine plan for us. Although it is impossible to fully understand what He has in store, this goal is what we must life by.
  4. We are all called to love and to serve one another. “The call to treat one another as we wish to be treated” Obama said. This message was a strongly portrayed by the life of Jesus Christ. It was his journey to open the minds and hearts of others so that they may see their calling and that they may learn to treat others as they wish to be treated
  5. President Obama’s speech contained a sense of learning in it. He stated that we must learn from our mistakes and be able to stay on track and not shy away from what lies before us. This message has been seen throughout the entire history of the Catholic Church. There are always errors to be made and lessons to be learned from them. Take for example, the Reformation and the Second Vatican Council. Among many other occasions these are times where faults are seen and are rightfully corrected.

For a pro-choice speaker to address Catholics under normal circumstances can cause a stir but when that speaker is the President of the United States and those Catholics are those from the leading Catholic University in the country, World War III may be on the verge  of breaking out. Being that The University of Notre Dame is one of the top Catholic Universities in the nation, “mayhem” did break out when the democratic President of the United States was asked to receive an honorary degree and speak at their spring commencement ceremony. It seems to me that whatever Obama does, drama follows, but I suppose that’s the same with any president. I heard about Obama’s plans to go to Notre Dame and speak from many different sources, all of which, of course, did not fancy this very much. After actually listening to this man speak and truly hearing what he had to say, I do believe he is right in his way to live in harmony
