Proposition 8. discrimination law passed in California.
So gays cannot get married now in California. Yet another state banding something so many straight people take for granted.
Marriage!
We now live in a world where a black man can be president, but yet on the same day that Barack Obama won the presidency, a law was passed to band and change a law to please religious people who do not understand gay people.
How does this happen?
How can we as a country believe that it is time now to change the way the world sees the united states and elect a black man president but at the same time tell the world “we are not that excepting”
I feel that day; November 4th was a monumental day for me. I got to witness through TV the beginning of great change. But at the same time in California they passed a law that forbids any male or female to marry the same sex. It was like I was given a gift (our new president) and then it was taken away (Proposition
The funny part is, the ones who voted, that helped pass this hateful prejudice law were mostly blacks and Hispanics. Amazing! At one point blacks couldn’t marry white people and even worst at one point they couldn’t even marry another black person. How about slavery? That was the worst form of racism ever. And a black person has the nerve to be prejudice against gays? Why would you be prejudice against a group of people when your own culture and race and families were enslaved to a white man that said you could do nothing unless he allowed you to? You as a black person know what its like to be judged and misinformed about your culture and yet its ok for you to do that to someone else. Why? What would you gain?
And Hispanics, have we not suffered enough in our own right.
Not only are straight and gay Hispanics second-class citizens in the eyes of many people in this country, but slavery was in our passed as well.
What ever happened to the separation of church and state? When did it become ok for a religious group (Mormons) to say what is ok for our state?
This is the reason our country separated church from state. So one or the other could not change the others laws or ways of doing things.
So many people are afraid of what they do not know. Many parents believe that if gay marriage is allowed somehow that will change the way god believes marriage should be and also affect schooling for young adults. Why would it? The marriage between straight people has nothing to do with educating someone, why would it matter for gay marriage?
Somehow people believe being gay can be taught. Are you kidding me.
So many straight people take marriage for granted and over look that they are given a gift. Something any gay man or woman cannot get simply because they are gay.
I believe if straight people are going to stand together and band marriage for gay people then they should also put into the law (since we can change them when ever we feel like it) that divorce is against the law. Yes this would mean once you get married you must remain married. Even if you are unhappy with your husband/wife. Straight people can get married and divorced with no problem yet a simple thing as allowing a gay couple to marry is forbidden. To deny that simple event of happiness. To tell a gay person “you are a second-class citizen and will not have the same rights as a straight person” is outrageous. If in fact gay people are going to be treated as second-class citizens then we shouldn’t have to pay taxes like every straight person does. Why should I pay taxes to a country that doesn’t even recognize me as a human being like the rest of the world? Why should I have to pay taxes and not be given the same birthright that straight people have?
Does this new law make any sense?
Do your research people. Open your eyes to your own culture and see the history. Change is upon us and should be welcomed. For if change never happened, many of our families and friends would not be here today.
