The Republican National Committee spent over $150,000 dollars in September on clothing and accessories for vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family. Perhaps it’s time she stop claiming to represent the middle class of America.
News reports came out yesterday informing the public that the Republican National Committee spent over $150,000 in September on clothing and accessories for Governor Sarah Palin and her family.
People are free to spend their money however they choose, but when a vice-presidential candidate lectures about how much she represents the working class and what she refers to as the “real America,” it’s extremely disingenuous to be spending this kind of money on clothes. Add to that the fact that she spent $150,000 (which is more than what most people make in a year), in only one month, and it was all on clothes; to top it off, it wasn’t even her money! If you’ve donated to the RNC recently, then you’ve helped Governor Palin buy high-end fashion merchandise.
To be fair, it’s not as if Senators Obama and Biden buy their clothes off the rack at Target; however, there are two important differences. First of all, Obama and Biden don’t regularly make attacks at their opponents which insinuate that they are out-of-touch with mainstream America and elitist. Second of all, Obama and Biden aren’t buying their clothes using money donated to help elect their party (unlike Sarah Palin and her family). The financial disclosure form for the month of September from the Republican National Committee listed purchases for clothing and accessories for the Palin family totaling over $150,000; the equivalent disclosure from the Democratic National Committee revealed that none of their money was spent on clothing for either candidate.
Please everyone, think about this when you’re deciding who is more in sync with you, your family, and your way of life. John McCain and Sarah Palin love to trumpet their commitment to the working class, but look what they do with the money donated to the committee of their party by Americans.
In this time of economic crisis, you have an important decision to make: you can vote to (continue to) subsidize the wealthy, or to get a tax break for 95% of families under the Obama tax plan. The choice is yours.
