This question comes up a lot, especially lately, and as a person who has never smoked weed, a person who has absolutely zero interest in it, I attempt to answer this question, with a webcomic.

There is a System Of A Down song about how the prison system is terribly over crowded, and how many of those people are locked up because of non violent offenses, mostly drug related, and it costs the tax payers a serious amount of money. And for what? Weed? Are you kidding me? Weed is less harmful than Alcohol or Tobacco and yet those are perfectly legal. Why? Because the government can regulate them.

Our government can save money but keeping less people in prison, which by the way will create smaller gangs in the prison world and will help save peoples lives. Once you enter the prison world you are victim to countless gang activities and are more likely to join a gang than to not.

When you leave prison for the first time, you find it hard to get a job. Most employers do not hire former prisoners. You have no place to live, no job and the only people who will help are the pseudo family of the gang.

So why not eliminate this problem by eliminating the need to send every kid to prison just for smoking a little herb?

We also have to consider the simple fact that we can tax the sale of weed. I mean, we tax cigarettes, alcohol and gas to high hell. You pay nearly as much in taxes for cigarettes as you do for the cigarette itself. So lets tax marijuana sales the same as we do tobacco.

What do you think? Doesn’t this make sense?

It should also be noted that drugs like Salvia are completely legal. Salvia is a powerful hallucinogenic drug that can be purchase in just about any head shop. Its effects last for about fifteen minutes and is one of the most powerful drugs one can take for the fifteen minutes you feel it. It does less damage to your mind than marijuana does.

And my personal drug of choice, Dextromethomorphan, is available all over the place. You may even already have it in your home. It’s cough syrup. Many don’t know that, when taken in large quantities, the cough syrup medication turns parts of your brain off and gives you a high not too different from PCP.

These drugs are legal, why can’t marijuana be legal too?
