Stopping The Obama Hatred: A Christian’s View

On a date long ago, it was written:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” ~Isaiah 9:6/KJV

You can have six people in a room reading that passage, and all six readers may receive six different messages by reading it.  Why? It is the Living Word.  As for me, I take great comfort in the fact that the government is upon the shoulder of my Savior-Jesus Christ.  I choose to view this much like oxen, bearing a heavy yolk upon their shoulder.  What a burden it must be to carry the weight of the government of every nation.  I don’t need to enroll in a lengthy theology course, and pick apart the ancient language, or discover the meaning of different word combinations to have the Holy Spirit speak to me through the Bible. 

That being said, it pains me greatly to be witness to all the “NOBAMA!” screamers, blog pages filled with anti-Barack links, and negative discussions about this man.  Ordinarily I wouldn’t concern myself with such nonsense, but seeing as how the vast majority of people who are doing this are, like myself, Christian…it is for this reason I speak.

Pastors throughout the United States can be seen and heard via many media outlets.  Most have at one point or another delved upon the state of our country’s economy, or religious status.  They have stated how we are spiraling downward as a nation, or other such sentiments of confusion.  Have so many of us forgotten who we are?  I have pondered this time and time again, and I still cannot fathom why or how there is such a large number of my fellow brothers and sisters in Jesus…in a proverbial coma.

According to the United States, I am a United States citizen.  I have a social security number, and I’m one of the numerous people in every census.   I love the country I reside in.  I appreciate the freedoms I have been granted by living here, but this is certainly NOT my home.  “This country of ours…” doesn’t apply to me, nor does it apply to any true believer in Jesus Christ.  Have so many Christians forgotten? If so, let me enlighten your memory:

“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own.  As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.  That is why the world hates you.” ~John 15:19/KJV

We are IN this world, we are not OF it.  Can’t you see that by concerning yourselves with political issues, you’re self-destructing your soul?  This is most certainly NOT a case of Christians donning the full armor of God and fighting with conviction.  This is more a prime example of a bunch of toddlers slipping around on a waterslide made of mud, muck and mire.  We are to put on the full armor of God so we can stand against the schemes of the devil.  Barack Obama is NOT ‘the devil’, people.  Whether or not you choose to believe the truth, the truth is that this man named Barack Obama has the same maker as you! 

We are taught by Jesus himself to LOVE our enemies, so it should be fairly simple for you to love someone who is the president of the country in which you reside…regardless of whether or not you share his beliefs!  I am not an Obama fan, but I AM a fan of Jesus Christ, and I’d rather listen to His commands than listen to the rampant baloney-hooey coming out of some of the mouths I hear.  Gossip is a sin…and don’t you realize that while you’re sitting down with your Christian friends on the weekend, discussing how Obama is this and that and the other thing, you’re not only guilty of gossip, but you’re also guilty of choosing NOT to love him, as you have been commanded to do.

Please just sit.  Sit and listen to the Lord for once.  Turn off the television and put down the newspaper…and listen.  Don’t forget who you are.  Don’t forget what you have been commanded to do.  LOVE those you dislike. It’s pretty easy to love those who share your religion, beliefs, lifestyle, and opinion…but to love one you are so much ‘against’, it is THAT love, you need to keep steadfast.  Grasp it as if you are holding on to a thin rope over a bottomless abyss.  

I’m not asking anyone to stand behind Barack Obama and rise up in support of him, or run down to your nearest Democratic party’s campaign headquarters and volunteer.  I sure don’t do that, and I never will.  I’m not a member of any political party.  Why should I be?  The only kingdom I am a citizen of is the Kingdom of Heaven.  As for my citizenship in this world, that is my physical being, my earthly name given to me by my biological parents. I shall receive a new body and a new name when I am home, and home is not here.

Stop the hatred, stop the slander, stop the debates!  If you have an anti-Obama link on your blog, website, or church brochure…READ it repeatedly, with new eyes and a renewed spirit. Read it with the eyes of Christ, and decide for yourself if you truly believe it is something He would support you in.  If you are a true believer, and truly know the Way, the Truth, and the Life…you will know just how very, very wrong this is.
