Even though we may not agree with the war in Iraq, we need to support our troops

The other day I saw something I found horrendous. There is a myspace group called F*** the Troops. Now I acknowledge that there are people in the country that oppose Bush’s plans and oppose the war, I’m one of them. But there is no need to say something like that about our troops. I mean they are only doing their job to keep us safe. Military personal could get into a lot of trouble if they don’t report for duty. Some don’t even want to be away from their families in Iraq, but do it because they know they are protecting their families.

Everyday on the news I hear of another soldier who died in combat or simply traveling, and yet there are people saying things like f—- the troops. These men and women are risking their lives for us. They are putting their lives on the limb so that we could be safe and comfortable in our homes. I have family in the military and hearing they were getting deployed was like having our hearts ripped out. Then to hear a unit get bombed or whatever puts fear in our hearts that it was our loved one’s unit. People who don’t support our troops cannot possibly understand the emotions the troops’ family members go through each and every day praying their son, daughter, mother, father etc. will come home in one piece. No one wants to get THAT call.

Granted there are some soldiers who have done not so great things while deployed, but there are plenty more who are doing heroic things. Athletes, rock stars, celebrities are not the true heroes; our military men and women are along side our police and fire departments. If we don’t support them who will? While in another country, war whatever, our troops find solace in knowing the people of their country supports them. That’s what helps a lot of them continue going and thriving to one day come home.

You may not support the war in Iraq, or want our men and women home, as do I. But while they are still over there and as more and more are getting deployed each day, we need to show our support and love. We need to pray for their safety as they protect ours. Without them, we would be defenseless. We would not be as safe as we are. We need to understand that our troops are only doing their jobs. People need to see that while we sit in our homes, they are out fighting so that we can have those homes and be safe within our homes. Respect our troops, Support our troops, certainly NOT f— our troops.
