My opinion on the idea of taxing soda and other sugary beverages.
What the hell? When our forefathers had decided to rebel against England’s control it was due to taxes, but our own government is taxing us for everything under the sun. Wait, that is probably the next tax. A good friend of mine, Stephen J. Ardent, sent a couple links about the newest taxes that President Barrack Obama wants to pass.
Our fine president is wanting to tax ALL sugary beverages. This includes soda like Coca-cola, Pepsi, and Mountain Dew. That is not all that is included. It is also including energy drinks like NOS, Rockstar, and Mountain Dew Amp. So, now in order to indulge in sweet, sugary beverages we have to pay an extra three cents per can.
The tax is claimed to be helping support uniformed health care and to lessen the number of people drinking sugary beverages, such as soda. Plain and simple it is another tax. It is Uncle Sam’s way to get into our pocket and take the money that most of us can not afford to pay out. It is the people’s choice who we have controlling our country and our economy. It should be up to us as the tax-payers if we want them to pass this new tax., yet we have no say in it.
What is next, America? Are we going to be getting taxed for the food we eat? Are we going to get taxed for the air we breathe? That is up to our government. They are the ones who are telling us that if we want to drink diet soda we do not have to pay a tax, but if we feel that we have to have the sugar then we must pay more for it. They are the ones saying what we do.
I wonder how much tax is going to be paid for this: http://www.picable.com/Transportation/Trucks/The-Big-Red-Truck-with-Suprises-Inside.1027687

Hehehehehahaha..Theresa..I’m not rubbing off on ya am I?..hehehehaha..just joking bud. If this new tax is to help counter obesity, rebuild your health care system over there, (of which a significant portion of goes toward treating preventable problems such as diabetes)..I have to say that it’s a good idea. Depending on the %mark-up, I doubt the beverage industry would suffer. Another well-written article Theresa.
This is why my motto has become –
“2010/2012 NO INCUMBENT SURVIVES”.
We simply have to vote out every single politician who is currently in office, and keep doing it until they get the clue that they serve us, and not the other way around. Then term limits.
Stephen’s got it right they are supposed to serve us.This is another pointless tax. That’s almost 20 cents a six pack, that would generate quadrillions in no time.Money the government will squander on pointless salaries for elected officials who worsen situations instead of bettering them.
The tax is meant to decrease consumption of sugary beverages (i.e. cut down on fatasses) and increase the amount of coverage our health care gives us. We\’re taxed next to nothing by our government, so that\’s what they give us. It\’s just a shame that we don\’t have… u know… health care that will help us if we get sick. Maybe if we actually got what we need from the health care system this tax wouldn\’t seem so pointless.
I’m going to eat some crackers with brown sugar. Is there no tax on food in the US?
Remember how Obama promised that no one making under $250k would see a tax increase? I reckon he forgot that folks that make under $250k drink these drinks, huh? Or just perhaps this was his plan all along to tax everyone more and just not say so??
