He cannot fulfill all of his promises. But his message of hope carries Americans forward.
You have made ample promises to America in the past year, Mr. President. We realize that you will not be able to deliver all of your promises to us. You made too many promises to keep, so varied, so idealistic, carried away by the irrational nature of a long campaign, seeking to grab the greatest power on earth.
You made the promises of a god, and yet, you are a man. You spoke with the conviction of a trusted warrior, but do you have any idea of what you are really getting yourself into? Neither do we.
But we do trust you to try and fulfill the big ones.
On this day of your swearing in, we say “thank you” to you, President Barack Obama. We say thank you to you because:
- you have chosen to lead us.
- you focus on hope.
- you look and sound presidential.
America looks forward to your four year term. Indeed, we are ready for change. Lead us. Change us. Renew the sense of purpose in the hearts of Americans.
In your inaugural speech you said that America would meet the challenges of our times. Americans want to overcome the horrors of war. We need to see a revolution in the economy. We want to continue on in the goodwill created by the election of an African American president towards greater unity and harmony in our great land.
Some have called your youthful presidency a turning point in American history. Let it be.
Thank you, President Obama for serving this great nation. We pray for your safety. We ask God to give you wisdom unmeasured, perseverance, and the ability to make the right decisions at the right time. May you do so joyfully. May your family have a great experience in the White House. And may we look back in four years time with even more gratitude in our hearts towards the 44th president of the United States.

Every president has promised the sun and the moon, I think that with Obama, he actually means to try to achieve something for the people. although he said it will take time, he can’t possibly desecrate your great country any more than Bush. Nice write and blessing for this promising young man.
Prays God.
Sorry, I meant, decimate, above.
A very nice article.
Good article. I will pray for our new president as I hope all Americans will. I pray he will lead us in the right direction.
Thanks, Deb, Darla, and PR, desecrate or decimate, those are strong words! Yes, prayer is needed for these leaders. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it. Brian
A nice article, let’s hope Mr. Obama fullfill his promise.
An interesting article. Yes, we need prayer. When my country was terribly hit by Asia Crisis in 1997 we could only came to the Lord. Perhaps man cannot escape from great trouble but surely God can. I like the last sentence from US presidential oath that is: So help me, God. Congratulation US citizens for your new president.
Abdul and Eunice, thank you for caring enough for our country that you would pray and hope for the best for us.
Brian
Yes, we must pray for him as we are told in the Scriptures. But, I will also pray that his abortion policies will not kill too many new, yet to make into the world young people. Already on day 2 of his presidency the new one has committed to assisting abortions overseas. Hang on America – we’re about to lose even more of the next generation.
Brian, once more you have expressed with grace what I cannot. God’s plans are bigger than any plan president Obama might have.
thanks for sharing
What an article. I don’t know how I feel about all of this. I hope the new president will get the wisest counsel, he will be just and he will be a great president. I hope!
Thanks Mr. Stankich for this balanced and respectful response to the newly-elected President. It is a great reminder that he needs to be in our prayers.
A very unbiased article. Good work. He is in my prayers.
It is difficult to support a president who has already acted to insure my taxes fund abortions in other countries, is paving the way for blatant open homosexuals with the people who are trying to protect you and me, and, has already decided that effective measures implemented for the protection of the world and our shores from terrorists no longer have value. May God have mercy on our souls!
Thank you for all the comments, each of you. Some of you are struggling with our new President. I think every American struggles with every president, regardless of party or likability.
If I could be president, I could do things my way. Or not. I’d have to reach across the aisle, balance foreign vs. domestic concerns, weigh my desires with that of 300+ million Americans. So maybe I wouldn’t be able to do things my way. Who then gets his or her way? In our country, WE DO!
Stay engaged in the process, work for the good of the nation, continue to seek out truth and righteousness, treat others fairly and respectfully.
But let’s put away this nonsensical name-calling and demonizing. Express your opinions humanely, and if our leaders go against the will of the majority, or the sense of the minority, or the will of God, then the blood will be on their own hands.
Brian
Nice work Brian! Political topics are always tough for me to comment on, but your work always deserves recognition.
This is another great article. Obama has a lot to prove to this country. Even if you do not like him I hope most Americans can support him un-like our last president. We need a good leader to keep us focused. I am more conservative and I believe in less government and more personal responsibility and I will continue to live by this. Regardless he is the president of my country and im not rooting against him. We are all on the same side here. Great job.
I’m not too crazy about politicians. They are all actors and deceivers. However, the situation in United States is too delicate for politicians to be all talk and no game. I hope that all politicians leave politics aside and help the new President move this country forward.
Nice piece Brian! It’s a most impossible thing for any president to fulfill all his campaign promises. Situations change and no president is fully aware of each little nuisance involved in the many policies that guide our country. And besides there’s always the opposition throwing their wrenches into the spokes. President Obama is certainly a much needed breath of fresh air!
Chris, thanks for the love.
Duke, I love your attitude of supporting whoever is in power. Others, like Rush Limbaugh, want President Obama to fail. If he fails, so does America. I don\’t get that kind of \’tude.
Morgana and Will, thanks for leaving the insightful comments about politicians and politics. Yes, lets give our government officials some grace, unless they prove that they don\’t know what they are doing.
Brian
Another great article Brian. Time will tell if Mr. Obama can fulfill some of the things he promised the American people. It’s too early to pass judgement on him yet, but he is spending trillions of tax dollars trying. I just wonder how all this money will ever be repaid. Time will tell. Well done Brian.
Thanks for a job well done. Yes, we have to pray for our president and other elected officials. President Obama answered the call of duty to serve his country, he new what he was doing when he got into the race. We are all called to serve each other. He will be a great leader. We also have to remember, if he runs America as he ran his campaign I believe America will be the Country the world will look too once more. Everything takes time, but I believe all the promises he made will be fulfill. He loves God and he loves to pray and have others pray for him. He walks in integrity and he is an example of what a true Politians/Servant should be, but he needs all of our help.
Keep up the good work
