My opinion on Social Security.
I heard recently that Social Security will run out by 2017. The way it stands right now I will have to work until the age of 70 in order to draw any money. That gives me 30 more years to pay in.
Social Security is payed the highest percent of everyone wages that is taken out, I am extremely mad that 1. this is the largest money coming out of my check, 2. I now find out that what I have and will pay out over the next 7 years will not be there for me when I will need it the most.
It is my understanding that with Social Security, you really are not drawing why you payed in, although they send out statements telling you that based on what your current income is and will be, you can receive X amount of money at this age but if you continue to work until this age then you can draw X amount more.
What I would like to know is, why will Social Security run out in 2017? I do not believe that any person should draw Social Security if YOU DO NOT WORK AND PAY ANY MONEY IN.
I think that if you are married for several years, and your spouse passes away then you should be able to draw the money paid in by that person, you should not have to wait until you are at retirement age, or draw only from the one who made the most money.
If the government would stop paying out benefits to people who have not payed in to Social Security, then the rest of us who do pay a nice chunk from our checks should not have to worry. I believe that we should be given the choice to pay or not to pay into Social Security.
I know that is one choice the American people will never be given. I will say it again, THIS MONEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WORK, AND PAY ANY MONEY INTO SOCIAL SECURITY.
I would ask the question, where is the money that people have payed in, who passed away long before they were to retire, but I don’t have to ask that, because I’m pretty sure I know the answer.
