The downfall of a former great athlete, OJ Simpson.
It has been a long time since my last post but better late than never so here we go. This article is something that I never thought that I would write about but it is so here it is.
We all are envious of celebrities and famous athletes, but unfortunately in the real world when they are not doing what makes them famous, they go to bars and they socialize with their so called friends and some ’suspect’ friends.
What can you say about O J Simpson that has not been said? Here was a man who came from San Francisco, made it to USC and became one of the greatest running backs of all time, though most of us never got to see many of his games because he played most of his career in Buffalo, NY.
He made a mistake with his ex wife and that tragedy, he dodged a bullet due to the great attorney that he had at the time, the late Johnnie Cochran and his team of attorneys who became known as ‘the dream team.’ Well when you dodge a bullet like the one that he dodged, you’re supposed to lay low and stay out of the limelight, yeah easier said than done.
He did not lay low, he did not stay out of the limelight and today, Friday, December 5th, 2008, a judge in Las Vegas, NV sentenced him to over 30 years for his part in a kidnapping, and breaking into a hotel room, as he tried to regain his personal possessions that he said were stolen from him.
There’s an old joke that says that celebrities are above the law, well this judge in Las Vegas, NV clearly made it known to everyone today that no one is above the law. I think the sentence was harsh, but he did it to himself. Of course there will be a mound of appeals but in the meantime, we now have this former great NFL football player who is in the hall of fame, who had a brief career as an announcer for ABC Sports, a former heisman trophy winner and an actor, who will now spend time in jail. From humble beginnings, to the top and above the sky, and in the clouds, and now to fall from grace and live behind cell bars, what a shame and what a sad picture of someone who had it all for so long and who now, at age 61, sits in a Las Vegas, NV Jail. Who woulda thunk? I guess celebrities are not above the law after all, at least not in Las Vegas, NV.
