Thoughts.
The election is over. We have elected a new president. Now that this season of political gains and loss is over let’s keep in mind that the next 4 years will be the toughest we have faced since Jimmy Carter. It is time now to get behind the president and support him. We may not like his politics but he is the president. Nobody likes the president 100% of the time. The world is watching us as we have elected the first black president in our history. Ready or not he is ours. He may not be experienced but he is gathering a group of experienced people around him to advise him.
Hopefully it is the right group of people. Hopefully he will take good advice. We may be surprised that this time somebody got it right. A lot of you do not think so but we will see. For the rest of you, you have something to focus on, you did not vote for him, neither did I, but we got him. Plan ahead this time. Find the right guy get him elected and let the other side whine about him for some period of time. It is not the time for sour grapes but it is the time to heal our ills. Right or wrong we are fighting a war that is justly engaged. We must bring it to a conclusion but we must win it first. A divided country cannot win a war. We must find a way to compete with the rest of the world and rebuild our economy. Since we have been shipping our jobs off shore everyone’s economy is growing but ours. Maybe he will have a fresh idea or two that may work. I have my own but that is for another publication. Admit it or not but we are still divided racially. How do we fix that? If everyone was the same this world would be boring.
Look at people as individuals not as a race. Learn from them, embrace them as people, and expand our heritage. We are Americans but we have our origins in all corners of the world. People identify themselves as Asian-American or African-American but we are Americans. A comic once said that our names may be spelled S-M-I-T-H but we could call ourselves Jamoffski if we wanted to because we are “Americans” and have this freedom. Enjoy the freedoms we have. Other countries are not as fortunate. Remember that our government is by the people and for the people. Self government is an unalienable right won with the blood of our people, rejoice.
