Senator John McCain selected Governor Sarah Palin, after reportedly speaking with her for fifteen minutes, what was the basis of his selection?

Do you believe that people will buy almost anything, if it is marketed in a positive way? Case in point, remember the Pet Rock? Spruce up the packaging, get the brightest, most alluring colors, add a little bit of flash, a small pinch of spice, and there we have it, introducing Governor Sarah Palin, the vice presidential nominee for the Republican party. Lovely woman, charming personality, former runner-up in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant, but did I miss something here, are we voting for Miss America, or for the leader of the free world, and his Vice-President? She is also under investigation for abuse of power, as Governor. The distraction is just what the doctor ordered for the anemic campaign of Senator John McCain. He really cannot, as he is trying to do, run away from his party and the failing policies, of the last seven years under a Republican administration, in which, he himself has stated, that he voted with President Bush, over ninety per-cent of the time.

Or, that he will absolutely, bring change to the country. What exactly would that change be, when he has not differed in the slightest, from the untenable policies of the Bush administration? Are we to believe that he has had, an epiphany of consciousness, in the past eight months, and incorrect, in following the Bush policies as he has been doing, for the past seven years? He believed in deregulation and has made former Senator Phil Gramm, his top economic advisor, who also believes in the same thing. Senator Gramm helped to start the mortgage crisis, that we are in the middle of, at the moment, when he pushed for the deregulation of the banking industry, When he could not select his pal Joe Lieberman, as his Vice-President, Senator McCain, contacted Alaska, by telephone or otherwise, and had a fifteen minute interview, as was reported, with Governor Palin, made up his mind and introduced her the next day

. Do you think it was love at first sight, two mavericks in a pod, so to speak? At that point, the base of McCain’s party went hog wild, with great joy over his selection. She was not allowed to have any press conferences, no questions were to be answered. This woman is a breath away, from being the President of the United States, should their ticket win in November, and no one is allowed to ask questions. She finally showed up with Charlie Gibson of ABC News, at her home in Alaska, and gave some answers to questions asked, by Mr. Gibson. One interesting encounter occurred with Governor Palin, during the interview, Mr. Gibson asked her what the “Bush Doctrine” was, and she hesitated for five seconds or so, and asked, in what way, Charlie”?

Mr. Gibson asked her, what did the Doctrine mean to her? She gave a general explanation, of what she thought he was asking. Mr. Gibson then explained, what the Bush Doctrine was all about. That the Bush Doctrine gave the United States the right to strike another country first, even before they struck the U. S., if we felt they posed a danger to the country. She was not too sure of, how the budgetary process was handled, but overall she did a reasonable job, the first time out. On foreign affairs, she mentioned that Russia was so close to Alaska, she could see it. Good show, Governor.

People, we are at war on two fronts, and two other countries are threatening to build or produce nuclear power for good or evil. We have multiple other problems, Pakistan just elected a new President, a terrorist truck bomb, exploded outside the Marriott Hotel in Pakistan, killing many people, including an American. The new president was supposed to be dining there that day. The President of Pakistan, has asked the United States, to stop its raids on their border with Afghanistan, where Bin laden, is said to be hiding.

Russia has invaded Georgia, and still, has troops stationed there, with no intention of leaving. With regard to prime Minister Putin assisting with talks between Iran and the United States, on the subject of nuclear power, Prime Minister Putin is supposedly, giving up on having warmer ties with President Bush, due to the recent dust up, and very bad relations between Russia and the U. S., over the invasion of Georgia. We have a potential financial meltdown on Wall Street, a housing crisis which continues to plague the economy, and a loss of confidence, by the American people, in the Government and its leaders, in dealing with these economic problems.

These problems and others will face the next administration, and Senator John McCain, making a huge decision, decides to bring in, a former Miss Alaska, runner-up, to be his Vice-President. It would have been such a much better choice, to select someone with depth. How about Senator Olympia Snow, or Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who have been around, have great credibility as people, who have knowledge, about Washington politics, and foreign affairs?

No, he had a fifteen minute interview, jumped on the wagon, had a fifteen minutes of fame parade, and got the punch he needed. As we are left wondering, why are the Republicans directing our attention to the shiny hollow object in the window, while there is a fire blazing in each of our kitchens, in the form of a meltdown, which may wipe out our savings and our pensions, across the country? Why? Because this crisis was perpetuated by the Republicans, in the form of former Senator Phil Gramm, Senator John McCain, and Chairman Alan Greenspan, when the deregulations were undertaken, which allowed individuals, who could not afford the mortgages, they were given.

Then Wall Street took over and sold the barely legal loans, while the value of homes went down tremendously, creating a financial disaster, which is where we are. In walks, Governor Sarah Palin, to distract and try to confuse the electorate, especially those women, who are so happy to see a female on McCain’s ticket. Let’s not be deluded. Just because a person has female body parts, but does not share any of your issues, that you as a woman believe in, you should not be taken in, and manipulated into voting for a ticket that is, very much against your interests. The choice of Governor Palin, would not be so alarming, if Senator McCain was in better health, he is not, he has had four bouts with cancer, the type that Maureen Reagan had, the kind of cancer which took her life. He is also seventy-two years old, these particulars are not reassuring. You would think that Senator McCain would have thought about his country, as he is always prone to say, and chose someone, who would be ready to guide the ship, in case something happened to him. No, he picked a shiny object, which to me, gives the impression, that he really does not care at all. Or maybe he thinks that people will not care, who is Vice-President. This is one of the most important elections, in recent times, please care. Good luck America, here’s hoping, you will consider what is best for the country, and vote appropriately.
