About whether the “War on Terror” is not a war on Islam.
The term the “War on Terror” does not reflect that we are at war with or against Islam, but does reflect that we and yes also the world are in the midst of a struggle which is defining these times we live in as well as the other crises we face. This is a war which in fact really had started long before 9/11,and the outcome of this struggle will have a profound impact on the generations which come after us.This struggle and other crises we are facing and how we handle them will shape the future of the world.
It is the radicals like al qaeda who were at war with us even when we didn’t fully understand the struggle had already begun. This is also a struggle within Islam itself for the very identity and soul of Islam and the muslim world against the forces of extreme Islam who wish to impose their fanatical views on the whole world. So this is not a war against Islam or even on the muslim world per se and never has been, but it is a war with the forces who are taking advantage of Islam as a tool to bring about their dark world view and ideology for the whole world.

I think we need take strong decisive stands in regard to these very issues we face and not flinch or back down.My concerns are that now we are returning to more of a pre 9/11 we had thru most of the nineties, when the first attempt by the same extremist’s on the World Trade Center occurred, the Khobar Towers and the embassy bombings in Kenya etc.Yet it is at this very moment that our military with the help of others seems to be winning the battle in Iraq against al qaeda and those allied with them,in spite of all the difficulties that have come up.

I am concerned that some of Obama’s actions like no longer using the terminology”War on Terror” and even the closing of Guantanomo etc, will weaken our position in this struggle we are in.It is in these times of crises we need to show more resolve and leadership than ever, because it not a war against Islam but against the forces of extremism and radicalism in the world.
I do think we do need to reach out out to moslem world where and when we can, and work together with them but there are also times when we need to take stands no matter what most of the world thinks of us and lead. That is the test of true leadership. Our military is fighting and dying for our rights and freedoms as well as to advance the causes of liberty and democracy, and that is why we should never back down or compromise our principles to please others in these dangerous times.
