Opinions From a veteran.
America was founded on the backs of men who wanted America free. Since the founding of our country many have died for the freedom we enjoy. I have a deep fear that the politicians in our great land have forgotten “WE THE PEOPLE.” I haven’t seen any federally elected officials from any of the three branches state they are worried about their finances. It seems to me that they are more concerned with businessmen and financially well off individuals taking their hard earned money to bail out failed social policies. To me this is unacceptable, and I would hope that there are more Americans out there who are tired of our elected officials trying to run our lives.
The Tea Parties on 15 April 2009, were an indication that many Americans are tired of too much government spending. There is more than just the spending to worry about. The Tea Parties came up short, in my opinion, because it turned into political partisanship. The problem Lady Liberty faces is from both sides of the isle. The parties are more interested in getting votes than upholding the oath of office.
America is great because of what we stand for. This nation is powerful because we let individuals from all stations go just as far as they want (THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS). That spirit is there in all Americans. Could Congress be the exception?
The elected officials in congress seem to think that public service has somehow become public “serve US”. George Washington eluded to this very problem in his farewell address 1796, man’s ambition will attempt to subvert the power of the people. Washington was against a party system. Our two-party system puts a strangle hold on “WE THE PEOPLE.”
I would like to say that maybe we should take the advice of our first president. Washington’s public service was just that. Given the opportunity to become a king of America, Washington put America first, and put political ambition aside. Do you know of one politician today that will give up his position for the good of America? Probably not.
Even though the congress of today would not step down for the good of America(maybe they could put down our checkbook.) I know that we as Americans together can stand up and vote for America. We the people, can vote to remove congress and parties.
