This is a political analysis of an email written by famous musician, a one Mr. Huntley Brown who happens to be black. His reason for not voting for Barrack Obama; he believes the Democratic ideals are not good enough for his Christian belief system.
What happened to separation of church and state?
To begin; this article is quoted on SNOPES.COM “Rumor Has It”.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/huntleybrown.asp
This website, in its FAQ section states, “We employ the more expansive popular (if academically inaccurate) use of “urban legend” as a term that embraces not only urban legends but also common fallacies, misinformation, old wives’ tales, strange news stories, rumors, celebrity gossip, and similar items.
In the Origin portion of the article, “Huntley Brown is, as described on his web site, “a Christian concert pianist whose versatile repertoire includes classical, jazz, gospel, reggae and many other styles.”
From Wikipedia, “Reggae is noted for its tradition of social criticism, although many reggae songs discuss lighter, more personal subjects, such as love, sex and socializing. Many early reggae bands also covered Motown or Atlantic soul and funk numbers. Some reggae lyrics attempt to raise the political consciousness of the audience, such as by criticizing materialism, or by informing the listener about controversial subjects such as Apartheid. Other common socio-political topics in reggae songs include black nationalism, anti-racism, anti-colonialism, anti-capitalism, criticism of political systems and “Babylon”, and promotion of caring for needs of the younger generation.

At the end of the web page is a statement, “We note that there is uncertainty over whether Mr. Brown, who was born in Jamaica, is actually a U.S. citizen (and thus eligible to vote) or merely a U.S. resident (and thus not eligible to vote).
For a person whose citizenship is in question, and whose roots and livelihood come from promoting music that is supposed to “raise political consciousness of its audience, by criticizing materialism and informing the listener about controversial subjects such as Apartheid” the apparent conflict of interest becomes astoundingly clear when Mr. Brown denounces Barrack Obama as the “wrong” candidate for President of the United States.
Apartheid (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid) is a system of Legal racial segregation enforced by the National Party of government of South Africa. Apartheid had its roots in the history of colonization and settlement of southern Africa, with the development of practices and policies of separation along racial lines and domination by European settlers and their descendants.
Mr. Brown is obviously not a politician and has done well refining his education in one aspect of life, his music.
Does God really care?
Mr. Brown states, “God is not schizophrenic. He would not tell one person to vote for Obama and one to vote for McCain. As the scripture says, a city divided against itself cannot stand, so obviously many people are not hearing from God”.
I must be ill-informed. From my knowledge of what the bible says to begin with, Mr. Brown and I are not to judge. That is, if we are following the tenants of the Bible. How about you reader? When did God have his first conversation with you about voting? Would God care about something so tiny and insignificant as this man’s decision to vote? Seriously? This viewpoint makes a mockery of the all-mighty, all-knowing, all-encompassing God, we hear so much about.
If Mr. Brown claims he knows not only that God wants him to vote, but to vote for McCain then should we not worry about the psychological mentality of a person who makes such a claim? I imagine this person could also be on the side of the street next year when Obama does become President, without a job, clinching a sign in one hand claiming the end of the world is near, and Obama is the Anti-Christ.
How coincidental is it the one time in election history in which a Presidential candidate is being written about as “The Anti-Christ” and labeled a consorter of “Terrorists” happens to be the first ever half-black to become President?
Let’s consider Mr. Brown, being 1 of 6,732,762,240 people, and his perspective for a moment. If anyone believes the claim to be true, that Obama is harboring anti-christian sentiment and these persons claim to know the prophecy of the Word, then would that person, by voting, even have the ability to change the prophecy of the word of God? Who has the power to change the Word of God? Does Mr. Brown? More specifically, for those right-wing religious radicals who believe that Obama is the Anti-Christ or is some part of an elaborate fulfillment of prophecy, I ask you to consider the never-ending struggle between religious belief systems and structures, and biological evidence and scientific proof negating such. Quantum Physics tells us that the Universe is continually expanding and has been in existence billions of years. If we must believe in something that does not physically exist and none of us have never seen, then we also cannot deny the possibility or probability that there may be intelligent life on other planets in other solar systems throughout the ever-expanding and aging universe.
Is it easier to be simple-minded and join the herd mentality of the past, than to educate ones self amidst the complexities of living and THINKING in the 21st century?
In his response to the “email” he wrote, that apparently has gained national attention, Brown writes, “What has really bothered me is our beautiful black women constitute only 6% of the population, yet they comprise 36% of the abortion industry’s clientele.” Let’s examine this statement. This means that more than a third of all abortions are being had by black women when black women constitute 6% of the total population.
First, where did these statistics come from? Where is the verification that these numbers are unbiased? If bringing quantitative figures into the equation is what Mr. Brown would like to do, then Mr. Brown where is your Qualitative explanation for why these figures are what they are? You say, “Obama has done nothing to stop this?” with a question mark. What would you suggest Mr. Obama do as a two-year senator regarding the abortion rate of black female’s? Are you saying that because he is black, he must be concerned about issues regarding ONLY HIS RACE or this is where his focus should be? This sounds a little racist Mr. Brown.
What has John McCain done to help lower the abortion rate of black women in the United States?
Let us consider reasons why this must be true. Is Mr. Brown proposing there is a lack of morals amongst this portion of the population? Does he suggest black women more likely to enter into sexual contact at a young age than women of other races? Does he feel there is a lack of awareness regarding the consequences of sexual intimacy among black females in the U.S.? Does Mr. Brown believe these women are the victim’s of more violent crimes which require the abortive practice? What other circumstances could YOU think of that might cause this number to be so high? My point?
What does Mr. Brown think the reason is for the particular statistic he chose to attack Barrack Obama on?
I do not wonder why everyone is upset with this email, nor do i wonder why Mr. Brown receives hate mail for writing it. This is an indictment of the character of Mr. Brown and his “views” and “beliefs” and not Barrack Obama and is certainly not an advocacy letter for McCain. For those of us who are educated, we understand the problem is not with the Senator from Illinois, but with Mr. Brown’s level of intellect, or lack thereof and his non-evolutionary, non-multicultural, psychologically skewed, barrier-creating, religiously biased, opinionated, single-minded, prejudiced perspective. We are given no evidence to support the claim Barrack Obama is the Most Liberal Senator in 2007. The opinionated claim is based on a vote system administered by the National Journal.
Mr. Huntley Brown has quoted an article stating Obama was the most liberal senator of 2007. The article was written in January of 2008; an article, released in the midst of an already historical campaign process. Mr. Brown states, “I don’t know Obama so all I can go off is his voting record. His voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the US Senate in 2007.” The reference to the National Journal is the only reference given regarding Barrack Obama’s voting record in this email by Mr. Brown, AND there is no statistical reference regarding ANY VOTE Barrack has cast as a Senator. Since Mr. Brown can’t seem to plug his sources, I will for him.

Like Mr. Brown says, “He doesn’t know Obama”. If he had been listening for the past two years, instead of following for the past eight, maybe he would. I feel sorry for whomever fell victim to the persuasions of this ill-informed, single-minded, Jamaican who has obviously not been educated in the public school system of our great United States. Do your research. I’m Unimpressed.
When considering the history of our wonderful United States and its legally and politically opinionated practices, view these pictures for a recent reminder of why we have checks and balances.
