This is what I think the speech would be.

At 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 20th 2009, Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States. While watching the inauguration I thought to myself what if President Obama would decide that tomorrow (Wednesday, January 21st  2009) would be the last day of the war in Iraq and that he would announce it in front of the entire world press as his first action as president.

Of course I know that this is impossible for many reasons, the first is that it is not that easy to end a war and also that the President of the United States of America has to go to congress first before taking such a decision. So even if President Obama wanted to do so which of course I know is just me day dreaming even though I know that he said that he plans to end the war I would be insane to think that he could or would want to do so right away.

So I decided and the following is pure fiction , what if President Obama was to announce on Wednesday January 21st 2009 the end of the war what would his speech be like? Would he acknowledge defeat? Would he say that President Bush was mistaken? Or would he say that the united stated of America has succeeded in making Iraq a better place for its citizens? So I decided to write a speech taking the American point of view if I was President Obama’s speech writer and the following is what I came up with.

Ladies And Gentlemen, today I stand before you as a man who objected the war in Iraq back in 2002. But when President Georges W. Bush declared the start of the war, all Americans for and against stood together as one for the pride of our nation and for not to shatter the moral of our men.

For six years now our troops have fought bravely. Our men left their loved ones behind, and with courage and a lot of sacrifices answered the nation’s call to defend the United States of America of the dangers of Saddam Hussein.

These brave men whom some of have paid the ultimate sacrifice and have lost their lives for the love of this nation and in order to keep the American dream alive free of terror and fear, I salute and bow to their bravery and envy their patriotism.

The war on Iraq has cost us dearly and after six years it is obvious that it was not the best choice to enter this hellish war. Our nations has already lost a lot of men in this escapade as well as a lot of armor and its costs have surpassed expectations and have become to much and we can not keep funding this war anymore. If it does not end the bloodshed will increase and America will loose its bravest sons.

So on this day that history will remember I here by announce the end of an era and the beginning of a new one, an era of democracy and prosperity to the Iraqi people lead by the Iraqi people and I here by declare the end of the war. May God bless you all and God bless America.

The above is what I think this historical speech would look like when the day comes and the war in Iraq finally comes to an end.

I end by hoping that the Obama Presidency brings peace upon the Arab world and peace for humanity in general.
