The one-term president is now speaking out saying the discontent in the nation is all based on Mr. Obama’s race. Who really cares what Jimmy Carter thinks anyway?

Former president Jimmy Carter made the following statement:

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African American,” Carter said. “I live in the South, and I’ve seen the South come a long way and I’ve seen the rest of the country that shared the South’s attitude toward minority groups at that time … and I think it’s bubbled up to the surface, because of a belief among many white people, not just in the South but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.”

Arguably the least successful president in modern times, Carter is making comments that seem to have no basis in fact.  The very fact that we have a black man who was elected president (ie, got more votes than the white guy he was running against) expose Carter’s statement as false in my opinion.  And honestly, what good can incendiary remarks, without any basis, like this do?  None.

The one-term president doesn’t seem to be in tune with the citizens of this country.  I don’t think he was when he was president and he certainly isn’t now.  If you write a book that is on the recommended reading list of the world’s top terrorist (Bin Laden) then that is a pretty good indicator something isn’t right, don’t you think?  And Mr. Carter seems to forget that the former leader of the Senate, Robert Byrd, is not only a supporter of the current president and endorsed him but also a former member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Jimmy Carter wasn’t relevant during his administration.  He certainly is no more so today.  Great strides have been made in the United States in civil rights and race relations.  The former president should put a lid on his opinion before he causes more dissension and a greater divide among this nation.
