The article gives reasons as to why we as a country should not elect John McCain to be our next president.

Are you that blind to the things going on around you? Are you that set in your ways that you do what you’ve always done and what your family has done over the years and you don’t create an opinion of your own? You really need to step back and take a view at the world around you and better yet your own backyard. Stop turning a blind eye to issues that no longer can be ignored.

I have to ask…are you raciest? Why then, can’t you see a black person, like Obama, rule the United States? Are you ashamed of the thought? Oh my gosh, get a life and realize that McCain is the worst choice that we can possibly make.

In case that you forgot, or better yet want to ignore the truths and things that McCain says and stands for, then let me remind you of them… Then maybe you might open your eyes and see past the chocolate coating to what’s really there in the mist and draw a realization from that…

I’ve heard way too much complaining about Bush, do we really want to deal with that again with having McCain in office? I think not. So then why support someone who is just like him or worse?

McCain believes that people should be able to hold onto health and retirement benefits. Do you know how most people are able to have such benefits in the first place? It’s because of the Unions within the workplace that people are able to have health and retirement benefits as well as make a decent living wage. Unions care about people, companies don’t. McCain wants to do away with unions. There is no guarantee or security for your job…you could be fired tomorrow if you didn’t have a union supporting you, so why dissolve/do away with the unions?… Without unions, we wouldn’t have any benefits, 40 hour work weeks, paid vacations, paid holidays. Getting rid of unions is like getting rid of freedoms and rights. I guess you have to ask yourself if you want to live a decent life with a good wage, benefits and be able to retire and afford the things you want or if you would rather want to work in sweatshop like conditions the rest of your life…

McCain plans to cut taxes for the rich corporations by claiming that since Ireland only had an 11% tax rate, unless our corporations get a tax cut the businesses will go to Ireland… There is no way that our economy and internal issues within our country can be compared and even similar to other countries… Just because lower tax rates work in other countries, doesn’t mean that it’s what right for us. It may sound good, but with decreasing taxes for business, it’ll only make them richer and the gap between the rich and poor will only increase… Either way businesses will look towards other countries for employment because they can get cheap labor also known as sweatshop labor. They are able to make that much because it’s what their economy is like, they are not anywhere near like us and do not have the bills like we have, etc so we have a reason to have higher taxes, higher paying jobs, etc. We can’t survive in this country with this type of economy without it. If he cuts taxes for the rich corporations, the government then will look to the middle and lower class people and tax them greatly to make up for the loss. Do we want that?

Is he really going to lower taxes? Looking back at his record when it came to voting to lower or raise taxes, McCain voted to raise taxes 477 times… Can we really trust him that he will actually lower taxes? No, he cannot be trusted and we cannot turn a blind eye to this! He will not lower taxes for anyone.

People have been blaming the Clinton administration for the failing of the economy. Honestly, it’s not Clinton’s fault, it actually started with the republicans Marshall Plan that was created under Carter. With the present day economy, part of the problem is also because of deregulation. Deregulation eliminates government power allowing for competition. McCain has voted for deregulation every time it has come up for 26 years. The financial industry drives on greed… Does McCain really want what’s best for our economy? No, he does not want what’s best. If he did, he would not support deregulation, when that is clearly a major problem wrong with our economy.

Let’s talk about earmarks… earmarks make up only 1% of the $407 billion dollar federal budget. McCain constantly talked about the abuse of earmarks and it distracts from the federal deficit. It distracts from the fact that every single month the war costs the same amount as a full year of earmark spending. You sure don’t hear McCain talking about that. The Republicans are silent about it. One can debate if earmarks are good or bad, but that’s not the point. The Republicans are like, let’s forget about The Bridge to Nowhere and whether Palin supported it or not.

Especially you don’t hear about McCain’s plan to stay in the war indefinitely, but yet according to his website he hates war… At least Obama has a definite plan to end it within the next four years. Why is he telling us one thing but doing another? McCain is also a war vet, but yet he did not vote for the GI Bill. McCain was also against having peace troops in Afghanistan, but yet was for it in the situation with Iraq. What makes these two situations different? Nothing, other than Iraq has oil, in which we are after. McCain doesn’t want to deal with foreign owners of oil, so go to war and take over…I just have to say, what has he been smoking?…Umm, I mean what are his plans if we get rid of oil? I’ll talk about it in a bit, but for now I’m continuing my rant. I say we shouldn’t even be messing in other peoples’ affairs until we take care of our country first, but most of everything McCain stands for isn’t in our countries best interest. If it was, why worry about every other place than the United States.

According to McCain’s website, he wants to tell oil producing countries and oil spectators that our dependence on foreign oil will come to an end and the impact will be lower prices at the pump. McCain blames the declining value of the dollar as the reason for the high cost of oil, so he wants to pass a policy that’ll increase the value of the dollar and reduce the cost of oil.

All I can ask, is how far ahead into the future is he looking at? I have read many reports that within ten years our currency is going to change to the Amero that’ll be shared between the US, Canada and Mexico… This will greatly decrease the value of the dollar, making everything much more expensive. Is McCain looking ahead to this? No!

If we end our dependency on oil, do you know what he wants to increase our dependency on? His plan is to build 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030 with an ultimate goal of 100. Yet, we haven’t built one in 30 years, so why all of a sudden should we start investing in this. If it was so great of an alternative energy source why haven’t we looked into developing more nuclear plants earlier? Also there have been lots of problems with them, so why would we want another 100 in our country?

Nuclear energy is referred to as clean fuel. It generates 2,000 tons of solid waste a year, but there is not a safe way to manage the waste. Usually countries want the cheap way out of everything but doing this will harm the environment. Until there can be a safe way to manage the waste and dispose of it safely, it should not be called “clean energy.” For example, in the 1990’s, Russia dumped nuclear waste in the Arctic Ocean… Do we really want to destroy our environment? Not to mention be in contact with the high levels of radiation… I guess we need to ask ourselves is this the alternative that we really want? I think not!

So, it is estimated that fossil fuels will run out in the middle of this century and nuclear energy is looked as never ending. This is not the case. Yes, fossil fuels are running out, but so will nuclear energy. Known reserves of uranium is at 3 million tons. Reactor requirements of uranium is 60,000 tons per year. So there is only about 50 years supply of uranium available. So why build 100 nuclear reactors if this supply isn’t long lasting? That’ll be such a sight in 50 plus years down the road, tons of abandoned nuclear reactor plants across the country…

The whole idea about clean coal technology is ridiculous. It generates 100,000,000 tons of ash and sludge per year and is laced with poisons like mercury and nitric oxide. We need a president who will support clean energy that is not harmful to us, the citizens, and the environment.

Even though McCain wants to end dependence on oil, he will commit our country to expanding domestic oil and natural gas explorations. He wants to drill in the continental shelf up in Alaska’s wildlife refuge. He claims that there is trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas reserves in the US. But why should we destroy the Alaskan wildlife refuge? It’s uncertain how much of the oil is worth going after. After building pipelines and everything else needed to drill oil, is there really going to be much of a profit? Probably not, especially when there are only about 5.6 billion barrels of recoverable oil in Alaska. Besides, whatever oil comes from Alaska will never make it to the nations’ capital since by all accounts it would probably be bound for west coast refineries or possibly shipped to Asia. Why bother drilling if it’s not going to be used in the US? Either way, drilling in Alaska will not sustain our country.

Let’s look at McCain’s health plan. His plan promotes competition and he hopes that it would lead to lower costs…there is no guarantee that it will decrease. Competition may make some things affordable, but it does absolutely nothing for those who have bad medical histories to get health insurance. Also his plan does nothing to give health care to the people who really need it.

Competition does not equal success. The plan allows for people to seek health care outside of state lines. This would allow insurance companies to move their operations to states in which consumer protection laws are weak. It is also not universal. In fact, it’s far from that. It does nothing to reduce the number of uninsured people and will not help the 47 million Americans currently living without health care. McCain’s health care plan does not seem to be in the best interest of the American people. It has long been conservative politics to deny universal health care because those who are suffering from lack of health care aren’t really a key demographic to conservatives.
