The friendship between george & john spirals as howard campaigns for bush. leaders are elected to represent the wider views of their own country – not express opinions on polititions in another country.

A serious gaff by Australian Prime Minister John Howard in response to comments made by American Presidential Candidate Obama. In my view our Prime Minister should not be interfering, either directly or via inappropriate comments, in the American political system.

To suggest that terrorists would be rubbing their hands together as Obama suggests withdrawing American troups from Iraq is way out of line. While he is entitled to free speech – on a world level and on a topic of such incredible importance, his comments were not only unfounded and untimely but also an extreme example of fear campaigning.

How much influence does George W Bush have on John Howard? It seems that puppetry is alive and well and we have to wonder, while both have popularity issues to contend with, if Mr Howard’s outburst was so much in George Bushs’ favour as to question his motives.

Australia is a drop in the ocean compared to the powerful influence of America in world affairs and Howard’s “private” right to free-speech, should not be used to represent the views of all Australian’s. He should apologize, not only to Obama, but to the Australian people for misuse of his position.
