A UN position on Germany’s role to stop the spread of arms.

In the past couple of decades Germany and most of the EU has been trying to stop most of its illegal proliferation of arms to middle-eastern nations and Asian nations as well. Year after year when war breaks out between two countries Germany struggles to reduce and stop proliferation of arms. It does by teaching and helping developing countries to stop proliferation of arms in their country

Germany has did a lot to stop the proliferation of arms in Asian countries, Middle-Eastern countries, and some African countries. Germany has agreed to about all of non-proliferation of arms treaties including the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Non-proliferation, disarmament and arms control are a concern of Germany’s foreign and security policy. The German Government has agreed to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and the quick opening of agreeing on banning the production of fissile material for weapons purposes (Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty). Also trying to get the U.S. and Russia to abolish their nuclear program.

Now Germany has recently witnessed the illegal spread of weapons in the 2006 Hezbollah- Israeli war. Hezbollah was receiving most of its weapons from Iran and Syria. Germany is now helping the Lebanese National Army to stop the illegal spread of arms into its country. Many countries including Germany are involved in stopping Iran’s nuclear weapons program, and sending arms to its groups around the Middle-East. The two main areas of interest in non-proliferation of nuclear arms are in the Middle-East, and North Korea. Germany, U.S., and other countries are trying to persuade Iran to give up uranium enrichment.

Germany has done a lot in the rule to stop the proliferation of arms. As on the news Iran and North Korea seem to be the only nuclear countries when the United States and Russia have the largest nuclear power in the world. Germany not only wants to stop the spread of arms it also wants to prevent it.
